Though she didn’t reject nor fight his touch, she avoided looking into his eyes. The pitiful sight she must have been. The usual sternness and stoic gaze behind her eyes were long gone, replaced by eyes glazed by unspilled tears. Leaning her face towards his hands she attempted to escape the horrid smell of the smoke, replacing it by the smell of the any dirt on his hands before turning her gaze towards him, though reluctantly.
“No,” she reassured, breathing heavily. “It’s...just the... smoke. I - I can’t...” The words were spoken with strain. Her heart felt exhausted as all of her energy was put towards the before erratic breathing.
Biting her underlip, she escaped in his palms once more. “Don’t -... don’t tell anyone...I’m fine.” The shame would be too much to handle. Even now she was waiting for his smart remarks.
