It was supposed to be fun. It was supposed to be something to shake off the mundane, small town vibe that was setting in their bones, making the cabin fever set in. Making them feel trapped, like they'd never leave Beacon Hills if they didn't do something to prevent it. He didn't want to stay in Beacon Hills; he knew without a doubt that Scott felt the same. It was their home, it was the place they'd grown up in -- but it was a place that held both fond and cumbersome memories for the both of them.

And sometimes those cumbersome memories took root, laying seed to the dark thoughts that dwell with every person that's dealt with loss. With every person that had to deal with losing someone they held dear -- even if the circumstances were different with each. It was still a loss; something that made Stiles itch to cause mayhem for everyone around him, Scott following along for the ride.

So it wasn't exactly surprising that Scott agreed to find the body in the woods with him. The fact that he always complained about nothing happening in Beacon Hills cemented the fact that he'd be going. It was just a matter of finding the body that made things a bit--

Stiles knew that his dad was out in the woods with some of his deputies and the K9 unit they had at the station. He also figured that the killer -- whoever it might be -- could still be out there as well, despite his words to the contrary as he trudged through the undergrowth with his best friend. It helped that they were keeping up a constant back and forth camaraderie between each other as they walked, the flashlight bobbing in his hand the only light other than the almost full moon peeking through the trees above them.

It helped keep Stiles' heart from beating out of his chest, his hand from shaking too much to keep the flashlight steady. His voice from stuttering as he paused, shooting out an arm to grab the back of Scott's jacket, yanking him backward so his back was almost flush with Stiles' chest.
