It was small and brown, tiny eyes looking into each person surrounding it. “It reminds me of you,” Yona commented, and Hak didn’t see how. It must have wandered to the outskirts of the forest, they guessed. “Return it before the mother bear comes hunting for its child,” Yoon said. Thus, Hak and the blue dragon were responsible for it. Hak since he’d be able to handle the mother bear if it came to it, and Shin-ah— well, the bear cub was rather attached to him somehow. 

So, Hak made his way through the forest, the little beast well settled in his companion’s arms. It seemed rather excited for a cub that was lost. 

“We’re halfway through the forest,” he finally stated. There weren’t many harmful creatures in the particular forest, so it shouldn’t be a problem to drop it there.

             something faint and familiar flickers in the back of his mind, calling out to him and drawing him near. he doesn’t consciously follow the trail, but these legs of his, now free from the chains that had weighed him down all his life, seem to have developed a mind of their own. with each passing day, he’s grown closer; the sensation becomes relentless and increasingly hard to ignore.

             when he reaches the mountains, any resolve to run from this feeling dissipates as his gaze drifts over the mountainside. somehow, he knows: there’s someone inside there, someone that he wants to meet; a pulsating blue light illuminating a path for him. he’s not stupid, he realizes it must be something to do with that damn dragon power of his, but his resentfulness of the destiny that befalls the dragons takes a backburner to this. even being free, he had yet to find comfort anywhere, and the familiarity of this feeling is the only thing that offers it—that’s constant.

              with one leap, he’s made it onto one of the ledges with a path that leads deeper into the mountains. for a while, he’s able to use the light of outside to guide his way through, but it grows darker the farther he travels and soon he has to feel his way through, his hands pressed against the rocky wall. fear rushes through him, but he tries not to focus on it as curiosity takes precedent—he has to find out where this feeling is coming from.

            when he’s traveled far, and he’s tired and out of breath, he calls out into the darkness, hoping there’s someone who answers, ❝is—is there anyone here?❞

     It’s not his intention to intrude.      Hak, alert as he is to every movement within the camp’s confines, is often startled awake by Shin-Ah’s quiet movements. ( Once upon a time, when he didn’t have a princess and a strange family to protect, he could’ve napped peacefully through just about anything. That’s different now. ) Usually he pays it little mind; the guy never seems to go further than the fringe of the treeline and it’s not Hak’s job to track the comings and goings of his own allies. Tonight, though, he just-- doesn’t feel like drifting back to sleep.      He leaves his glaive next to his blanket, pauses to listen for the peaceful breaths from Yona and Yoon’s tent, and leaves the dying firelight behind to seek Shin-Ah--

     --whose reaction immediately begs a question.      “Are you not in control of your abilities, then?” Brows arch, faintly sardonic. He’s never taken it upon himself to dig into these topics. Dragons and magic are things beyond Hak’s simple humanity. He settles next to the seiryuu now though, posture casual. “I always figured your face was just real ugly under there.”      It only occurs to him after he’s spoken that teasing Shin-Ah like he teases Yona is like indicating a closeness that might not be there.

Secret investigation

Leaving her tent and a sleeping Yoon inside, the girl made her way to one of the four dragons, to be exact, Shin-ah. Making sure she did not wake up anyone in the process, the princess kneeled besides the mentioned dragon, gently shaking him by the shoulder in hopes to wake him up without making too much sound. After all...too many people here were light sleepers.

Now...if you’re wondering why this redhead decided to do this, well...she needed Shin-ah to accompany her to the nearby village. There was something off with it...and given that her intuition rarely fails her, she wanted to make sure.

“Shin-ah...wake up. I need you to come with me.”

💕 bromance with shin-ah??

   sign me the hecking heck up.   for one thing we need to fix how few canon hak and shin-ah interactions there are, like why are we being deprived of a perfectly good bonding opportunity, what is this?? i wanna see everything w/ them. like. training together!!! quiet night-time discussions. staying up late together to guard the camp. hak coming to fully trust shin-ah and solidify that good impression he has of him--   just yes, yes to this, come at me tbh. bromance me up.
