Complete concert of the Curtis Burch Band at the 3rd Annual International Newgrass Festival in Bowling Green, KY. This show was featured on PBS's "Jubilee" series.

Curtis was one of the founding members of New Grass Revival and covered the guitar and dobro for the group throughout the 1970s. I met Curtis in the late 90s and started playing bass with him on occasion shortly thereafter. Now in his 70s, Curtis is still as fine a dobro player as you will ever hear, and his wife Ruthie is among my favorite singers. Love her.

Rounding out this group is multi-state fiddle champion Joel Whittinghill, Curtis's brother Ricky Burch on Banjo (he's played with everybody), and Marc Owen, formerly of Foster and Lloyd, on percussion.

If you want to sample a piece or two of this show, I recommend our versions of The Dillard's There is a Time (beginning at 3:26) as well as Joni Mitchell's Free Man in Paris (bass solos all over it)and Townes Van Zandt's White Freightliner Blues (Beginning at 51:07). Hop around in the middle of the show and you'll find newgrass versions of classics from Elton John, Doc Watson, the Grateful Dead, and John Hartford; along with a few vintage NGR tunes.
