Mari doodles on the younger boy’s notebook while she speaks, giving visuals to aide her explanation.

She’s usually the one helping Kel out like this. Not due to a lack of ability or desire on Hero’s part, it’s a bit more selfish than that. By having her be the one who helps, they simultaneously help Kel with his studies and make the boys’ parents like her more.

“Does that make sense?”  She smiles encouragingly, in a way that invites honesty.

sunny's gaze slowly shifts over to kel. a mere hug would in no way remove any of the anxieties that permanently stained him; sunny also thinks of himself as way too odd ( wary, unsure, reserved ) about physical contact, so he doesn't see why he should move to engage. but then... well, in all honesty, he likely should have expected the invitation to not be an invitation, per se. the taller of the two seems to have already bridged the gap as he spoke. sunny cannot help himself, becoming quite rigid upon embrace. he feels that he's making things awkward and marring the mood ( as always ) with his stiffness... yet kel doesn't seem to be pulling away, even after a few seconds. therefore, sunny does his best to move his forearm--his arms are mostly pinned to his sides--to try and use a hand to pat kel's shoulder. hm. perhaps he can tolerate this inkling of warmth a little longer.

He smiles playfully before gently bonking Kel on the head, verbalizing the word 'Bonk'.

Stopping upon seeing his face, a tiny worm of guilt wriggled through Hero. It wasn't fair to say that to him, especially so unprovoked like this. Swallowing his own pride, he almost immediately wraps his arms around Kel, held close against his chest like he was still a wee 4' lad, muttering his apologies with a smile.

"I'm sorry for calling you a stink-face, you know I didn't mean it!"

several factors contribute to his overheated state. one, the quickly-becoming-a-furnace summer sun; two, the vigorous amount of walking he has done; three, the fact he dons two layers, one of them a pure black, as he typically does. he is adverse to the extreme heat but when outside with a friend he cannot do much to remedy it, for that would include taking the lead away from kel when he seems to be in possession of quite the motivational drive.

sunny could possibly suggest an indoors activity, but that would require something coming to mind; and he is rather occupied with his unpleasant suffering under the sun. well, if he's going to become a loaf of well-baked bread, he might as well act like it. as such, sunny simply stops walking behind kel in order to move off the sidewalk. he then sits down on the grass, and flops over with a soft thump; this is quickly followed by possibly the longest exhausted exhale that he can muster.
