Before and after. The photos don't really do it justice, but I turned the finish from that shiny ebony to a nice satin black. Also put in a dirty fingers pup in the bridge position. Now it looks and sounds exactly as good as I had hoped for. I did a bunch of research online on how to dull the finish on a guitar (because I'm not a huge fan of the shiny ebony). People suggested using 0000 grade steel wool to scotch brite pads and many other abrasives. I had all the hardware off and everything taped off and I was just about to hit it with with the steel wool when I has an epiphany. Mr.clean magic eraser. These things are basically micro abrasives. So I went to town on the finish following the contours of the guitar and i was able to get a beatuful satin type finish without swirl marks and scratches. It took some work but I am really excited with the end result. In the end iI took a pretty cool 2004 Gibson les paul studio and turned it into a customized dream guitar. Couldn't be happier with the finished project.
