i rewatched episode 6 right before wilhelm leaves for the palace and Simon says “thank you for not letting me do this alone” and let’s just ignore the foreshadowing for a second. the thing that gets me isn’t that Simon got hurt as much as it is the fact that. wilhelm did that because he thought his family would have his back. he was burning a bridge to keep another one. and now he’s stuck with: the only member of his family who cared about him gone, the rest of it only using him, the one person he considered a friend the cause of his hurt, and the boy he loves rightfully turning him away. he’s truly alone because he trusted his family to look out for him.
