------------
“Lani!” you called out to your niece, “Watch where you’re going! You might hurt yourself!” She waved you off as she continued her path to the playground. You found a nearby bench to sit on and opened up the book that you brought with you.
Just a few feet away, you had caught the eye of a guy making a sand castle with two little girls. He had looked over at you and smiled as he recognized you right away.
“Kylie, Leila, I’ll be right back, OK?” he told his nieces.
“OK, Uncle Mark,” Leila replied, “We’ll go play on the slides.”
Mark nodded and added, “Be careful.”
You were too engrossed in your book to notice him approach you.
“Y/N?” he said to you. You looked up to the person who said your name and took a minute before you recognized the face. “I thought that was you.”
“Mark!” you exclaimed and smiled, “It’s been a while!”
“Yeah, it has,” he agreed and took a seat in the empty spot next to you, “I believe since senior year of high school?”
You started to feel a blush rising to your cheek as the memory came to you. “English class, right?” you said pretending that it was hard to recall exactly the last time you saw him.
“That’s right,” Mark agreed and smiled at you. You smiled back as the last memory you had of him came back to you.
Your class was assigned to reenact a monologue from Romeo and Juliet as part of your mid-term grade. The teacher picked a random girl for all the boys that had chosen to do Romeo’s monologue in the final act to stand in as Juliet. You happened to be the one the teacher volunteered as Mark’s Juliet. You ignored your classmates’ teasing as you got up to take your place. You were too busy trying to calm your nerves. Mark was Mr. Popular since freshman year and you’ve had a crush on him since you first laid eyes on him. Mark recited the monologue effortlessly and as he was about to lean in for that last kiss with Juliet...you sneezed...in his face. To say you were embarrassed was an understatement. You whispered your apologies as he wiped his face and ran back to your seat. You avoided him until graduation.
"I'm still so sorry about that," you apologized and laughed.
"That was so many years ago," Mark replied, "It's a memory we can laugh at now."
You started to talk about high school days, fellow classmates you’ve ran into since you moved back home, friends you still keep in contact with, what you’ve both been up to since then and time just flew by. You smiled at him as you remembered why you had such a big crush on him back then.
“So which one is yours?” you asked.
Mark searched the sea of little kids running around without a care in the world. He pointed to a trio of girls chatting it up on the playground tower. “Those two,” he said, “are my nieces.”
“Oh,” you said, “That third one is my niece!”
“What a coincidence!” he chuckled, “I’ve always envied how kids could just easily go up to other kids and act like they’ve been friends forever.”
“Same,” you agreed, “It gets complicated once puberty hits.”
“It does,” Mark said, “I mean if we had met in elementary school, it probably would’ve been a lot easier for me to say ‘Hey, Y/N, I like you, can we be friends’ and maybe I wouldn’t have been so afraid to tell you how much I liked you in high school.”
You nodded your head absentmindedly agreeing to what he was saying, then realized exactly what he was saying. “Wait, what?”
“Uncle Mark!” two little voices called out and you both turned to see three little girls running, “We still have to finish our sand castle!”
“Auntie Y/N, I’m hungry,” Lani told you.
“Five minutes,” Mark told his nieces, “I’ll meet you there.”
“Now!” Kylie and Leila demanded.
“It’s OK,” you told him, “I have to get going and get some food in this one anyway.”
“Oh, OK,” Mark said with a hint of disappointment, “Can we exchange numbers, then? Maybe we can continue to catch up during dinner?”
“Yeah, sure,” you agreed, “Maybe you can tell me during dinner exactly how much you liked me back then.” You blushed at your attempt to flirt with your high school crush and he smirked because he liked it. You handed him your phone to enter his number and called it so he had yours.
“It was really great seeing you and I’m glad you’re back in town,” Mark said and stepped up to give you a hug. Kylie and Leila then started tugging at his shirt for his attention. “I’ll call you soon.”
You nodded and waved goodbye to the group as Lani gave goodbye hugs to her new friends.
“All I wanted was five minutes longer,” you heard Mark whine as you walked away in separate directions. You giggled as you walked with Lani back to the car. So did I, Mark...so did I, you thought to yourself.

You couldn’t be more proud. Your husband was getting his award for the Best musical actor and he was part of the Musical of the year. He beamed all the way to the stage and shooting his thousand watt smile on all in the room.
“Thank you all...for this award. I couldn’t have done it without support of my beautiful wife...” sending little wave in your direction, “and the crew...”
Rest of the speech was suddenly interrupted by sharp pain in your stomach.
“Y/N are you ok?” asked Chan, who was sitting next to you.
“All i wanted was five more minutes, baby” you adressed this remark to your belly.
“Five more minutes for what?” asked Chan now more confused. You placed your hand on your belly.
“Well, the baby is coming. He just stole his father spotlight,” you said.
“WHAT?!” shouted Chan so loud that everyone turned their head to you.
From this moment everything happened so fast. Seokmin rushed off the stage, tossing his award on some random actor in first row.
Chan visibly panicking, “I’m not ready to be an uncle or aunt!”
Seungchol, the only calm person in this mess got you into car and drove all the way to the hospital.
“Honey, I’m sorry we ruined your moment,” you said panting and crushing your husband’s hand.
“Ruined? You two? Never. I’m so excited for the little one! No award in the world can top this!”
Someone once asked me if I believe in fate. I’ve never believed until I met her. She was someone I loved with all my heart, but now I can’t even remember her face. I can’t even remember if our love story was real. Was it just a Dream? But what I remember is the real pain I feel from my chest every time I remember faintly.
“Kiss me.” She said, “there is not enough time to hesitate.”
“Then stay with me.” I pleaded.
I could see her frown.
“I can’t.” she said.
“Then I won’t kiss you.” I could feel my tears coming.
“Please, I will come back to you, but right now, this is not where I belong.” She pleaded.
“That’s easy for you to say, for you it’s only a while, but I have to wait for you for years.” I replied, “It’s unfair.”
Hidden by the pouring rain my tears fell. We both could sense the energy beginning to pull from behind her.
“Then will you wait for me?” she cried, “your kiss will be your answer.”
It’s not that I didn’t want to, but I didn’t want to make a promise I wasn’t sure I could keep. I could see the sadness in her eyes and knew well that she knew I chose not to.
“Ten months from now, if you wake up to find me in front of you, I have forgiven you, if you never see me again, it’ll be your fault.” She turned away sadly, heading toward the portal.
My heart was being ripped out. Now I’m sure I couldn’t lose her. No matter what I was going to wait for her. Gathering up my courage, I turned her toward me, pressing our lips together. Holding her in my arms as tight as I could, I didn’t want her to leave. The feeling of her faded little by little as she was pulled through the portal, until there was nothing left. I let myself fall to the ground, my tears and cries hidden with the rainstorm.
“All I wanted was five minutes longer with you.”
All I could do was go home and wait for her. And as time passes I began to doubt she’ll ever be back. I began to doubt that miracle ever happened. I know I should trust in my love, her love, the love we shared. Being away from her and waiting in despair was getting to me. I’m going crazy. After two years of waiting, I knew she won’t come back. I was waiting for nothing. And so I chose to let it go. Get over it and start all over. I chose to continue on with my life. But somewhere deep in my heart, I couldn’t stop hoping that one day the girl who had faded from my memories will suddenly appear in front of me like she had promised. To let me fulfill the promise I couldn’t keep. I don’t make promises I can’t keep.
