a closed starter for @cxstlaviee featuring nixon and cora.
this was so stupid.
nixon had flowers in his hand. he hadn’t bought a bunch of flowers since his last anniversary with his wife and that was only because she’d been dropping not-so-subtle hints for a week. now he’d gone out and bought flowers because he was going to ‘visit’ cora and for some reason or another turning up empty handed felt wrong. he didn’t know why. they hadn’t fully navigated this thing that they were doing just yet and he’d bought flowers.
perhaps it was the guilt that had fuelled the action but there was little he could do to take it back now, he was already outside her front door waiting to be let in. it wasn’t until the door cracked open and the familiar face came into view that he felt himself relaxing, waving the bunch of pink carnations just in front of him. “hi,” he greeted with an easy grin, “i uh — picked these up?” he couldn’t help but phrase it like a question, unsure of how she’d react to the gesture.
he more or less let himself into the apartment, slipping around her to avoid any awkwardness hanging in the air. part of what made them work so well was that they didn’t seem to talk, they just did and nixon was quite happy to continue that even with his silly offering. “don’t think they’d quite fit in back at my place.”
