How about Dante and Lady having a son/a daughter? When i think about it, all i can think about is angst stuff (considering how broken Lady must be in this aspect, due to her trauma with Arkham, i wouldn't be surprised if she was totally scared and thought seriously on getting an abortion), so i can't think of any fluffy stuff, but i think i would like to see some cute stuff with this theme. And involving everyone else from DMC gang too, of course.
I think her younger self would have done it. But if we take a start point in the canon, or Lady now, with 35-36 years approx. I think it would be different. She would have had time to heal and make peace with many issues around the subject. So, kind of fluff!
Dante and Lady had been "together" for many years and the truth be told they had never really talk about having children. Their younger and more cynical versions have very clear that having children in their circumstances was something they could not afford.
But after such death, destruction and struggles that seemed never to end, she found herself wanting to create something. Together.
Lady brought it to the table as she did with any other delicate or sentimental subject, pretending that she was doing something else, more interesting.
While she was cooking, she asked Dante "Do you want to have a baby with me?”
"Look, I realized it's something I want, to have a kid, you know to be a parent"
Dante who had just spent eight thousand dollars in a coat felt a chill. He knew that if he said to Lady, ‘you are sure that you are not approaching a mid-life crisis’ is sex life would be non-existent, so he try to ask the same question in a more subtle way.
“Because we are different.”
“I do not want to... listen. I want a baby, but I do not want you to want it because I want it.”
Dante sometimes thought of a family, of a family in the sense of parents, children ... grandchildren if life allowed it. But he only thought about it when he and Lady arrived tired from some work and threw themselves into bed without much ceremony in the dim light of the morning that was bothering their sleep. Only in the silence of his reality was he allowed to fantasize.
Lady knew that expression and knew that Dante was far away in his world of introspection. So she touched his arm and said "Look, I've thought about all the bad things that can happen, in every way that our life is going to change and even then, I think it's worth it. Think about it, meditate and when you have an answer, tell me, and I want you to know that it doesn’t matter what you decide, we will be fine, we have always made this work our way, right?”
That night Lady slept in her apartment. Dante could not stop seeing the picture of his mother. Mommy. They were happy for a few years, but was it worth it?
The problem is that Dante felt that having a child, was to close the deal and condemn Lady to future suffering. In addition, he thought for such a long time that being a father would not be in his future that now that it was possible, it was strange… Dante was an expert in sinking into his own misery, but he did not believe that this was a matter of misery.
He dialed the number, it rang twice.
“Yes, yes... look this is serious and I want you to promise never to bring it up again.”
“Ok, geez, is it very serious?”
“Do you think I can do it?”
Patty loved Dante, although he was not always the most responsible or stable adult. Patty knew that he would always be there for her.
“Dante, any kid would be very lucky to have you as a father.” There was a silence and Patty smiled.
Lady was sleeping when she heard the door, two knocks, pause, a little knock. Dante.
"So, when do you want to start?" Lady was still too sleepy.
"I was thinking that we should get a place together, the shop doesn't seem like the best place to have a nursery."
When Eva Ann was born she became the apple of everyone's eyes. Trish moved with them because an extra pair of hands never hurt. Patty and Kyrie would have liked to do the same. The baby was too cute. To Nero, his little cousin seemed adorable to him, although he tried to keep Kyrie from having ideas before time. Morrison auto-named himself grandfather and was already spoiling her. Nico struggled between the baby and her cigarettes but the baby was winning. Lucia and Matier sent a small amulet of protection for the little girl.
Dante was very proud, as he had probably helped make the prettiest baby in the world.
Lady was happy, but sometimes when she saw Dante and Eva, it made her think about how... broken her father must have been. Sick.
Although she tried not to think about that much, she knew it would not be easy. Being a parent under normal circumstances is not easy and probably now that everyone was gathered celebrating the birth of Eva Ann a madman was trying to open the gates of hell. That's the way things were. But it was worth it.
