Technology for the next-generation
The phrase cloud computing is a recent buzzword in the IT world. This paradigm of computing has immense potential in the digital era with added benefits of greater flexibility, reliability and scalability with utility computing models. To keep the students a step ahead and discuss the future of cloud computing, the department of Cyber Science & Technology organized a webinar on Introduction to cloud computing on November 10, 2020. Tanmay Bhattacharya (Techno India, Salt Lake) was invited as the guest speaker to discuss the introductory aspects of cloud computing with both the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Bhattacharya started the discussion by explaining what the term ‘cloud computing’ means. “When we deliver software services remotely, it is more energy and cost-efficient. It is fast too. That’s what makes cloud computing such a rage in IT,” he added.
Companies are opting for wireless computing and cloud services for conducting business and procuring various services. Cloud Computing is, however, not a monolith, Bhattacharya was quick to caution the students. A wide range of computer and software services can be delivered remotely. “Software, platform, and virtual infrastructure are among the most popular cloud services,” he added.
The speed and the massive customization capabilities of cloud computing is the reason for its rapid popularity. “It is hard to say anything definite when it comes to IT but it looks like cloud computing is here to stay for at least the next decade or two,” said the speaker. The webinar ended with a question-and-answer session where Mr. Bhattacharya gave students useful pointers on how to master cloud computing.
