I HAVE A HEADCANON ASK FOR YOU that I’ve wondered about but I don’t know if I’ve seen your thoughts on! A friend and I were talking about 18 the other day and she enjoyed that TFS uses Lazuli, because she couldn’t imagine 18 likes going by 18, which made me think about how she identifies. So I thought about how many she goes by 18 because she has a deadname relationship with Lazuli, since it’s someone she used to be but isn’t anymore? Or if she only goes by 18 in public, and Lazuli is a special name for those with special access to her most vulnerable self? I would love to hear your thoughts on her relationship with names as identity markers. Are they different from 17’s relationships with his names? /chinhands
Canonically, the reason why no-one ever uses the twin's original names is because no-one knows what they are, not even the twins themselves (they have sporadic memory-loss as a result of Gero's experiments, and Krillin finding their names written down in the lab is solely a TFS thing) so I imagine 18's relationship with her name is mostly one of grief and loss and bitterness, over a name she'll never know and wouldn't even recognise if she heard it thrown her way.
I do wonder if anyone's ever suggested that they just choose new names for themselves, and why they've never done that... maybe they don't want to have any names unless it can be the long-forgotten ones that used to belong to them, a piece of their humanity that they'll never get back... although, surely they could summon Shenron and wish for their memories back, but would they want them? To know of everything they've lost, everything that was taken from them? Maybe trying to rediscover their names would be like opening a whole can-of-worms of their trauma that neither of them wants anything to do with. Maybe you're right and they feel non-human enough that they don't think they deserve names anymore or are simply uncomfortable going by them.
Thankfully, sweethearts like Krillin and Gohan are especially insistent on adding enough honorifics to 17 and 18, to humanise them, that being referred to simply by a number never feels particularly degrading, and maybe they're happy enough with that. Maybe they don't really care what they're called, it's enough to just feel loved and respected and welcomed into this weird little family of outcasts.
That being said, I do love the fanfics and things where either she still remembers her name and confesses it to Krillin once she trusts him enough, or they find out another way, and it's like this sweet little secret between them that they use in private, that is always very cute ;u; <3
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II Gameboy Advance 2003
I'm feeling unwell sooo I am resting and probably won't be online for a while, but I took the chance to export and publish the edits I did but left in the editor before coming back to rest. Have a nice day/night/whatever time of the day it is!
The suno17 miniserie is almost finished, the playlist is at the end of this post :D
The songs and videos that are not mine are there because I want to use these songs for some shorts if possible
Can you please do Android 17 from Dragon Ball?
