The first time she sees him, Seren crashes into the person in front of her from the shock. She's frozen, staring after him, and it takes two whole minutes of screaming from the ahjumma whose groceries spilled on the ground from the hit for her to get a grip of herself and apologize. The woman keeps screaming, and by the time Seren can get away, the man is nowhere to be found anymore, and she can't help but wonder if she'll ever see him again.
It's a couple of weeks later, early morning, and he's rushing along the street, and Seren's out of breath as she follows him from a safe distance. She stares, and stares, and thinks it through, but no matter what, she can't find an explanation. She struggles so hard to find one - but there is nothing. He's unlike anything alive that she's ever seen before. Humans, elves, dwarves, qunari, or even animals, plants and demons, she can read them. Their auras. They speak to her like paintings do to an observant eye.
He's a blank canvas. There is no aura surrounding him.
She continues to follow him - almost every morning, watching him make his way to the college at which she presumes he works. Then, she learns the way to his bookstore. She tries to stay hidden, to keep her distance and not to be noticed, but she knows that she's sometimes careless. She's certain that he's seen her at least once.
Eventually, she decides to try and talk to him. Perhaps she can find out more clues to her puzzle in such a fashion? But she can't think of any reason to approach him. Then, the bookstore gives her an idea. She's always loved reading, after all... She spends the entire day singing, so that she can obtain what she thinks to be enough money for her plan. Thinking it through, it's a bad plan. But it's the only one she has.
She wants to hide as she steps into the bookstore for the first time - she hates buildings, she hates the feeling of walls closing down on her, and her fear of actually speaking to the man doesn't make it any better. She can only hope that she looks less terrified than she feels, as she makes her way over to where he's standing, voice a little shaky as she speaks up. "Excuse me...could you please...h-help me find a book...?"
