2. Fatima

My call-out average: 4.18

Fatima is such a breathtakingly stunning girl. After her makeover she looked like a real supermodel. She started off with a couple of decent shots before crashing and burning in the meatpacking photoshoot. After that point her photos were strong from there on, including delivering some of the best shots of the cycle. She was best at more editorial concepts, but her face could adapt well to commercial briefs as well. Fatima was too posey at times, especially towards the beginning of the competition, but she became more natural in front of the camera as the weeks went on. Her walk was pretty terrible at the start but by the time she went on go-sees she had improved significantly. Her voice was great for commercials and she was one of the best options for being a spokesmodel, second to Katarzyna. I’m still upset that she was eliminated after having the best overall CoverGirl performance and a very strong portfolio as well. Fatima was one of the more robbed contestants of the cycle but I was glad that she at least made the Top 3. I can’t say I was a huge fan of Fatima’s personality at first. Hearing about her backstory and her FGM initially made me root for her, but she had the tendency to be a bit abrasive towards other girls at the beginning. Looking back, I think that it was a defense mechanism more than anything. Fatima definitely grew on me week to week. I loved her determination and how she just laughed at Lauren’s crazy tantrums. By the end, I was really rooting for her (or Anya) to win the entire thing. I really think Fatima would’ve been a worthy winner for Cycle 10 and she was easily one of the stronger contestants.

Cycle 10

My call-out orders for the tenth cycle, including individual call-out averages for each model.

1. Anya

My call-out average: 2.64

Anya’s loss is so mind blowing to me. Of all the robbed girls this cycle, Anya was the most robbed. She completely dominated the cycle from start to finish, winning the most challenges and getting called first 5 freaking times by the panel. I personally only gave her 3 FCOs, but that was still more than anyone else. When Anya came into the competition at the auditions it was clear that she was a model; her face was stunning and could work well for both high fashion and commercial modeling. I think that she had the best overall portfolio of the cycle. All of her shots were pretty strong and had some amazing standout moments here and there as well (Meatpacking, Fuerza Bruta, Jetsetters, Paparazzi). She showed a ton of versatility week to week and always knew was poses and angles worked best for herself. She had one of my favorite overall looks of the cycle as well, along with Katarzyna and Fatima. Anya wasn’t perfect though. Her walk and spokesperson abilities were her weak points, but they were still passable. I think she could definitely improve when it came to delivering scripts since she was able to be natural and charming when speaking, which is something that is hard to teach. Her walk wasn’t the best, but it was still functional. Even though she sort of bombed the final fashion show, I still think that she performed slightly better than Whitney. Tyra admitted at the start that she would be grading Anya more harshly since she was already strong to begin with, but if she was the strongest overall model throughout the competition (and she was), why the fuck wasn’t she rewarded for it? Ugh.

Another reason I was frustrated with Anya finishing second was that she was probably my overall favorite personality of the cycle. She was such a ray of light and positivity in the house, never getting involved in drama or talking shit on any of the other girls. When Fatima was sick in Italy everyone else felt the need to bash her behind her back while Anya made dinner and brought it to her in bed. It really shows what a kindhearted person Anya was. I loved her upbeat demeanor and how easily excited she was. I think that the pressure got to her in the final episode since she didn’t do as well in the final fashion show/CoverGirl performance as I know she was capable of. However, she showed a lot of confidence throughout the cycle without losing her endearing persona and she was easily the most likable girl in a house filled with quite a few questionable characters. Anya is one of my favorite contestants ever and would have been one of the strongest winners if she had been the given the title.

3. Katarzyna

I wish Katarzyna had gotten a better edit on the show. I was still able to connect with her even with her minimal screen time since she seemed like an intelligent and sweet girl, but I wanted to see more of her. Tyra clearly had something against her (I think she just has a vendetta against Ivy League-educated models) and I hated how condescending she was towards Kat during her usual bottom 2 reasoning speech before her elimination. As far as performance goes, Katarzyna was strong all around. When it came to runway, her walk was certainly one of the best, though I wasn’t as crazy about it as a lot of fans seem to be. I liked her confidence and her form was very good, but she kind of just let her arms dangle and flail around when she should’ve controlled them a bit better. She was clearly one of the strongest runway models of the cycle though, alongside Dominique. Katarzyna’s portfolio was very good and remarkably consistent. She started and ended her run with weak shots, but everything in between was excellent. One thing is that she really didn’t have any true standout moments (other than her paint and emo shots, and those come up short compared to some of the other girls’ peaks). In short, while most of her photos were strong none of them really blew me away. Still, she was one of the best photo models overall. Katarzyna was also a good spokesperson. She was super well-spoken and she would be perfect if she injected just a touch more personality into her speech. Katarzyna was very well-rounded and even though she wasn’t my number one choice I would’ve been 100% happy if she had happened to claimed the win.

4. Dominique

The one and only diva Mother Theresa! Dominique was such a treasure in Cycle 10. I’ll never understand why she got sort of a villain edit when Whitney, Claire, and Lauren were far more treacherous. Sure, she was annoying at times, but she never did anything wrong or questionable. The only thing she ever did was having a screwy alarm clock which wasn’t even a big deal. Dominique had one of my favorite personalities of the cycle. She was hilarious and had some really wacky quotes, plus she never really let the other girls or the judges’ often harsh critiques get to her. She was definitely a survivor! She was also clearly one of the strongest models of the cycle and was super underrated by the panel. Her first two weeks were a bit rough, but she rapidly improved from there and gave some truly amazing photos. I gave her 2 FCOs and I was angry that she didn’t receive any on the show. She ended on a bad note which probably tarnishes some people’s impressions of her, but her overall body of work was really strong. I loved her amazing bone structure and I never really understood why the panel thought she was so drag/masculine (other than her final shot).  I also actually thought that Dominique had the best walk of the cycle (well minus the over-the-top facial expressions). She did look a bit too mature at times, although that could be due to her awful makeover. Her major weaknesses were her poor personal style and not necessarily looking the most “fresh” in person. However, Dominique showed a ton of growth week to week and I almost ranked her in my personal Top 3. BRAZILIA will live on in my mind forever!

5. Whitney

My call-out average: 4.63

Whitney was actually a pretty good model, but there’s absolutely no way in hell she deserved to win. She had far too many lackluster performances, plus I don’t think she was particularly model-like in person. While she transformed well enough in her photos, she just looked like a beauty pageant contestant to me. Even with her numerous weak moments, I think her overall portfolio had enough strong performances to take her overseas at least. She had several very strong shots (homeless, music genres, Fuerza Bruta, paparrazzi, CoverGirl) and she showed a lot of creativity at times (though her constantly open mouth was an annoyance). She had major problems with her walk and spokesperson abilities. Her walk was so exaggerated and over-the-top in a bad way. She could memorize lines alright, but she always came across super fake and unlikeable (probably because that’s how she is as a person). Whitney was a solid competitor, but she robbed so many more deserving girls and her win was so unjustified. 

Whitney is one of my least favorite contestants ever. I could not stand hearing her talk. Even in her confessionals and talking head segments she came across as super bitchy, vapid, condescending, and fake. Her bullying of Dominique disgusted me as well. The way she (and Claire and Lauren) went into Dominique’s room while she was sick just to talk shit about her in the most high school mean girl way was ridiculous. The fact that she had to claim that her best friend was black to justify why she wasn’t racist is just laughable to me. Another thing that bugged me is how she skinny shamed the other girls in her confessionals. Making comments about how she “actually ate” and was healthy and didn’t have a little boy body just ruins her stance for body positivity. I could go on forever about why Whitney is a piece of shit, but I’ll leave things off here.

6. Claire

Let me start by saying that I didn’t care for Claire at all. She started off okay, I liked her passion for the environment and her overall chill demeanor. However, once she got to the house the way she treated Dominique was awful. Dominique had some annoying moments, but there was no need for how Claire blew things out of proportion by calling her a shady bitch and invading Dom’s room to talk shit with Whitney and Lauren about her. Plus the way she leaped forward screaming “YES” when she was saved from the bottom 2 over Aimee was disrespectful and embarrassing. Now that we got that out of the way, Claire was actually a terrific model. She never took a truly bad photo and she was extremely strong in the first 4 weeks. She knew her angles and her poses were almost always on point. Her walk was very good and she clearly looked like a model in person. Her forte was clearly edgy/high fashion shoots and I’m not sure how much potential she had outside of that style of concepts. However, I still think she was eliminated too soon based on her body of work, and I would’ve taken her overseas at the very least.

7. Aimee

My call-out average: 5.6

Panel call-out average: 6.4

Aimee seemed like a major contender at first. Her first two photos were stellar and she showed versatility week to week. However, she began to decline and her meatpacking and music genre shoots were pretty poor. I think she had a few more weeks in her, especially since there were a couple weaker models still left in the competition. Her walk was decent, if a bit on the safe side, and I love how she adapted to each photoshoot concept. Aimee was practically nonexistent. The only thing I remember about her is that she was raised Mormon and she hardly got any screen time. It may have been due to the editing, but she wasn’t a very memorable person at all, though I still thought she was a solid competitor.
