Summer 2014 Anime Preview
Although there isn't really anything that jumps out and tells me "I'm going to be awesome, get hyped for me!" I still have quite a few shows that do interest me! So I thought I would do a bit of a season preview like I tend to do...So here goes!
Aldnoah.Zero (July 6, 24 episodes)- A new mecha series in the same vein as Gundam, but written by Gen Urobuchi and directed by the same guy who did Fate/Zero (Which I still haven't seen) with music by the guy behind the Attack on Titan soundtrack. This sounds like an amazing combination of ideas, and people. So I'm pumped despite the fact that I haven't been big on the Gundam-like series I've seen.
Sailor Moon Crystal (July 5, 26 episodes)- A lot of people really like this series, and are hyping it up. I read the manga and didn't really like it. But the issues I had, had to do with the manga format. So I expect an anime to fix it.
Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei (July 10, ? Episodes, probably 10)- I haven't really had much exposure to the Fate series, but I liked the first series because of cute loli, magical girls. Plus I hear the second season is where it gets really good. I plan on reading the first manga series before watching it though.
Argevollen (July 3, 24 episodes)- I don't really know much of what to expect out of this show. It has a cool phrase to define it, but details are so few. Should be nice to compare it with Aldnoah and see which is better!
Zankyu no Terror/Terror in Resonance (July 11, 11 episodes)- I love thrillers, be it psychological or not. So when a show bills itself as a thriller based around terrorism, I'm sooo in. Plus it has some pretty solid staff in the form of Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop fame. I expect good things from this show, as long as it isn't episodic in nature like the majority of his works.
Rokujouma no Shinrakusha/Invaders of the Rokujouma (July 12, 12 episodes)- This will probably be a generic harem, but loli ghost. It has some interesting female characters in it, and I look forward to seeing how all the characters work together. And loli ghost.
Francesca (July 7, 24 episodes)- So let me get this straight, its about an undead idol, who fights against the Shinsengumi, and is made to promote Hokkaido in Japan? This is going to be a wacky series. I don't know if I will watch this one, it depends on early reviews, but it certainly seems...interesting. Also, I think each episode is only 18 min long.
Space Dandy 2 (July 6, ? episodes, probably 13)- More Dandy guy in THE space! Based off of the upcoming episode description, they might begin uniting the plot threads that were left hanging in the first half. Plus more Studio BONES goodness!
Glasslip (July 3, 13 episodes)- It's by PA Works, and looks gorgeous. The plot doesn't sound like it will blow me away, but it will probably be a coming of age story with romance thrown in. So in other words my heart is guaranteed to break.
Free Eternal Summer (July 3, 13 episodes)- More campy, sexy swimming from KyoAni, so you know it will look nice! I will not be watching this one weekly, I will occasionally marathon a few episodes with my Free buddy. We are already completely pumped to have more heterosexual bonding over half naked swimming men.
Akame Ga Kill (July 7, 24 episodes)- Initially I wasn't paying too much attention to this series. Then I heard it was based off of a very popular and well received manga. This fact made my eyes light up, and now I'm definitely up for checking it out. It looks darker than your typical Shonen.
Tokyo ESP (July 12, ? episodes)- I have literally no idea what to expect from this one, so early reviews will be key to decide if I should pick it up or not.
Majimoji Rurumo (July 9, ? episodes)- Pretty much only watching this one for the loli witch, who looks to be adorable. However there might be some very nice comedy involved. There's a high chance of me watching this one, but I will still be looking at reviews.
Tokyo Ghoul (July 4, ? episodes)- This series is very similar to Tokyo ESP in the fact that I have no idea what to expect, and whether or not I watch it, depends entirely on early reviews.
Hanayamata (July 8, 12 episodes)- This series was the last one I added to watch because I had never even heard of it, until I caught a trailer the other day. It looks beautiful! The idea of girls creating a club has been done quite frequently, but this series looks to be a lot more serious and drama heavy. So I am looking forward to it a lot.
Hanamonogatari (August 16, 5 episodes)- I don't really know if I really even need to explain this one...Its more Monogatari, I know what to expect, you know what to expect. It's going to be awesome, I've been waiting for this for quite sometime now. Too bad its still so far away...
Those are the shows I plan on looking into! What do you guys think? Are there any series that you think I should check out, that I'm not including?
