Cytoplasmic streaming, or cyclosis, is a natural phenomenon observed in large plant and animal cells which causes a flow within the cytoplasm. In the case of plant cells, chloroplasts are set to motion around with the stream. Chloroplasts are not able to cause movements actively, but when it comes to cyclosis in plant cells, the cytoplasmic stream makes them appear motile. Cyclosis is believed to be a method to move them to a position of optimal light absorption for photosynthesis.
