❛ are you listening? ❜
“yeah.”
no. she wasn’t. she was zoning out. her eyes were on her but her mind was someplace else. earth day. how pretty earth was. with its cracked roads, potholes, pollution, and dying trees. aside from that it really is pretty. there’s snow and cherry blossoms and foxes that jump into the snow-- its paws get cold and they look for shelter-- noses out for scents on something they’ve been tracking. her mind wandered from river to stick to stone, unable to focus on what the girl was talking about.
hyejung didn’t know that the girl was a she until she got corrected. he looked like a boy but of course, they didn’t have to be. so hyejung respected that, keeping that fact in the back of her mind because she didn’t want to disrespect those who choose to change their gender. it’s okay, it was alright to her. this is how they met. they met because hyejung was taking note of her features (not so subtly) and thinking thoughts aloud (good one.) now hyejung has a little bit of a friendship created with her, but she wasn’t so sure. hyejung wasn’t really sure on which friendships were actually strong or which were just being held by some scotch tape rolled up in some duct tape.
“uh huh, yeah.”
