Master’s Pet

She had successfully navigated a whole two sentences without calling him ‘sir’ and he didn’t seem upset so maybe he really was telling the truth when he said he didn’t want her to call him that. It was an almost liberating thought. She listened patiently as he spoke, nodding. A shower would probably be for the best. The way he’d phrased it had left it open for interpretation, but she was sure he’d prefer her to be showered and clean.
Then he left and she was alone. It was strange, being left in a place she could easily escape from, but maybe that was a test too. She could walk to the door, open it and walk out of here, but maybe he’d be standing outside waiting to see if that was what she’d do, or there’s be a doorman on duty who’d been told to look out for her. She couldn’t risk it. So she did as he’d asked, climbing into the shower and getting clean, though she wasn’t entirely sure what she was supposed to wear afterwards since her clothes were as dirty as she had been (which was to say not very because Deaton had taken good care of the pets in his care). She put them back on anyway and did a quick sweep of the apartment before settling on the couch, unsure of what to do with herself
It was half way home before it ever dawned on Jordan that she might not be there when he returned. He hadn’t even considered the possibility that she might just decide to leave when he wasn’t there. Jordan couldn’t very well blame her if she did leave, living on the run would have had to be better than living constantly under someone else’s thumb. But he found himself instantly filled with worry for her, the thought of her alone on the streets, pretending not to be an escaped ‘pet.’ The thought of someone like her old owner finding out what she was and abusing her again simply made him sick to his stomach.
Bags gather in hand, Jordan resolved himself to let her go if she wasn’t in the apartment. He knew it was against the law, but he knew he couldn’t bring himself to call pet control on her. As he opened the door to the apartment, a wide grin spread across his face as he saw her sitting on the couch. “Hey,” he said, moving to place the bags on the counter, hiding the pet store bag from her. He instantly noticed her wet hair and furrowed his brows as he realized the clothes were the same as before. “Oh my god!” he exclaimed as a realization hit him. “I forgot to get you new clothes! I’m so sorry, Lydia. It completely slipped my mind,” he said, moving to the bedroom and rummaging through the drawers for some clothes that might fit her.
