Acts 1:8 - pray, Christian, pray
... what we are talking about here is the icing - without the cake. Isn't it evident we need more God and fewer gimmicks? Our problem is not with a godless, secular America, but with a church that is increasingly prayerless, compromised, demoralized, and weak. We have drifted away from the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Where will we find the grace to change? To turn things around? When will we be desperate enough to come to God just as we are, pleading for his help and ready to follow wherever he leads?
Jim Cymbala Storm
Prayer cannot be taught by principles and seminars and symposiums. It has to be born out of a whole environment of felt need. If I say, “I ought to pray,” I will soon run out of motivation and quit; the flesh is too strong. I have to be driven to pray.
Jim Cymbala, "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire"
God, who encourages and strengthens his people, often uses other believers to accomplish his purpose. . . . Not until heaven will we understand the greatness of those who prevailed in prayer for other believers.

The Devil is Not Terribly Frightened of our Human Efforts
The devil is not terribly frightened of our human efforts and credentials. But he knows his kingdom will be damaged when we begin to lift up our hearts to God.
Jim Cymbala, in Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire
I also began to ease up in the Sunday meetings and not control them so tightly with a microphone. The usual format--two songs, then announcements, special music by the choir, the offering, then the sermon, finally a benediction--was gradually laid aside as God began to loosen me up. I didn't have to be so nervous or uptight--or phony. I had only been protecting myself out of fear. After all, people weren't hungry for fancy sermons or organizational polish. They just wanted love. They wanted to know that God could pick them up and give them a second chance.

I'm reading this book for the second time. It's killin it. Again. Wow, I love it. I love what God's doing. I love Him.
