Eastern Cottontail - [Sylvilagus floridanus]
featuring the Blow Fly - [Calliphoridae]
I want to take a moment to talk about invasive species.
Specifically one of the most prevalent in the country: the Common Housecat [Felis catus].
My neighbor's cat is an outdoor cat. I love that cat to death, but it's times like this I wish she wasn't around.
She killed this rabbit. this small, innocent creature that didn't have a cat as a natural predator.
I know that death is a part of life; I know that all too well. Fate may have already decided this one's fate. But I don't think the Common Housecat is native to North Carolina.
This is her. She was choked and thrown to the road as a kitten and was rescued by my neighbor. I love her to death.
I wish she was an indoor cat. The amount of rabbits, lizards, birds, etc. that I have to witness almost every single day, and her owner doesn't seem to care.
All outdoor cat owners are the most selfish people I've ever met.
Thank you to this rabbit for being alive. I'll never forget you
