One Last Time || Drabble
Brody didn’t know what had possessed him to go outside. But there he was, closing the front door behind him and stepping off of the porch.
It was cloudy, only a sliver of moonlight peeking through the dark clouds. It gave him an eerie feeling and his brain begged him to go back inside, but of course, he didn’t listen.
The blond walks out to the end of the driveway, looking around, not quite sure exactly what he’s looking for. He stands there for a long time, completely still, his head tilted up, looking at the sky as if it might give him some sort of answer.
He was just about to turn round and head back inside when the silence around him was broken.
“Brody…” The blond whips around, recognizing the voice before he even comes face to face with it’s owner. The vampire swallows, feeling slightly dizzy as his mind began to race since his heart could not.
“Lilah.” He breaths, frozen in his place. The woman smiles softly, just like she used to whenever she was around Brody. “I’ve missed you.” She whispers softly, stepping closer to the male. He wanted to back away from her or even run away from her, but he was still frozen, unable to react.
Lilah steps closer until she’s standing in front of him, only inches away from the younger vampire. “Say something.” She says softly, looking up at the blond. Brody swallows, finally finding his voice. “What are you doing here?” “I’m here for you.” He shakes his head, quickly, immediately denying that there could be any truth to that statement. “It’s true.” She replies softly and Brody swears the words sound so innocent that he could almost believe her. “I’ve been looking for you for a long time my love, and I’ve finally found you again. I knew, the second I saw Tempy, I knew I’d found you again.”
Brody is still, not trusting himself to move. “You knew where we were, you weren’t looking for me. You didn’t ask for me, you asked about Claire.” The woman nods, “That’s true but that’s because I saw Luke a few months ago and she was with him. I wanted to know that he wasn’t here because he would just cause problems.” There were so many missing pieces with her story, but so many other questions were running through Brody’s head, he couldn’t keep up enough to point them out. “If you knew where Luke was, why didn’t-” “I go after him?” The blond nods. “Because, I’ve told you before, a long long time ago. It’s you I want, Brody. Not him.” She reaches up, placing hand on the blond’s cheek and he flinches at the touch, but he doesn’t push her away.
They stand there like that for a long moment, the silence falling over them again. “I’m married.” He finally says, breaking the silence. “Yes, to a woman who is so obviously a reflection of me.” “What are you talking about?” The blond asks, narrowing his eyes. “She’s stubborn, she gets what she wants by any means necessary, we have the same eyes, same hair, we’re nearly the same height…” Brody knew he shouldn’t let what she was saying get to him, but each word sunk deeper and deeper, each similarity she was pointing out because so incredibly obvious that he wanted to punch himself for it.
“Brody…” She says again, getting him to focus on her once again and not everything she had just said. Lilah’s arms wrap around his neck, pulling him closer until their lips were centimeters apart. She brushes her lips against his and a shiver runs down the blond’s spine. “Do you still love me?”
……….
Brody jolts awake, his entire body shaking from unnecessary panicked breaths escaping his lips. He looks over, realizing he’s still in the bed and Carter is sleeping soundly next to him.
He tries to calm down a bit before he finally gets out of the bed, heading down to the kitchen to get a drink of water, wanting something cold to wake him up and shake the dream away.
He drinks two glasses of water, and he’s calmed down a bit, but he’s still not convinced the dream is gone, it was so real…
He sets the glass down, biting his lip before he hesitantly heads towards the door, a shaking hand turning the knob before he steps out, closing the door queitly behind him. The sky is clear, the moon bright. It’s quiet as he walks down the driveway, stopping to stand exctly where he had in the dream. He looks around for a moment, breathing in the fresh air.
Brody finally calms completely, letting out a deep breath. He turns heading back up to the porch. He’s so relieved it was just a dream, that it meant nothing. He chooses to push anything that was said in the dream out of his mind as he reaches out, grabbing the door knob. He’s just about to turn it and head inside when he freezes, a chill running down his spine.
“Brody…”
