Dínellon | Headcanon #4 | Past
A descendant of elves of high rank, Dínellon had many friends in his youth. He had always been the quiet type and very keen on watching and listening to others. However during this time he was not as timid as he is nowadays. Those were the times when he did have a close group of friends around him, but it was his skill to read people that got him into trouble.
His father died in the War of the Last Alliance and he was left with his mother, who was most caring of his eldest and only son. Never having spend much time alone in his life, it was a real blow when Dínellon heard that his mother wanted to sail to the West. Not yet ready to leave the shores of Middle Earth, he was left behind, though he still had friends around him to keep him company. However one by one his friends also decided to sail to the West until only a handful were left. Having lost so many people who - in his eyes - had left him alone, he did not want to lose any more and held tight to the few that remained.
This is when he started to worry about his every action. He did all in his might to please his companions, who in turn felt uncomfortable around an ellon, who was constantly asking if his behaviour was alright or if he had done something wrong. He also started to use his knowledge of personality and of what he had learnt by watching and listening to his advantage.
He started to manipulate his friends and would've continued to do so even to a point of it being dangerous to him and others, if he only hadn't taken one step too far: with the purest of intentions to do good to his friends, he started to share with them what he knew of their secrets and tried to help them deal with the difficult things in their lives. His friends saw this not as helping but highly intrusive instead and cut Dínellon off, damning him to the fate he had most feared: being alone.
Leaving everything behind, Dínellon wanted to start over and began working as a servant, finding it to be a job in which he could show his best characteristics and hide his worst: he was allowed to help people but not order them around or tell them things that might hurt them, because why would anyone want to hear the opinion of a servant?
Through years his fear of speaking grew and his worry had made him a very closed person who did not dare to open his mouth, since he was so afraid of saying something that repeated what had happened to him and his former friends years back. He still watched and listened to the elves around him, but instead of confronting them about their problems, he tried his best to help them while at the same time staying hidden.
