D&December Day 6!
Didn’t have time to draw something for today but a moment of Despair for the entirety of the Wafflecrew, was being sent back to Barovia. After seemingly defeating Strahd, being taken back to that dreadful place destroyed a part of the Wafflecrew’s hope about living. We all knew it couldn’t end well, and that moment of being back in Barovia, that time they were not guaranteed to leave again. A moment of despair, because an evil they thought they bested, came back to haunt them.
D&December #3 Fav NPC - silly question - lovey dovey gay vampire Esher X)
Day 4! Of D&December!! Ah! So today’s prompt is favourite villain and I thought as I am currently DM’ing a Curse of Strahd campaign and because of DCA playing this campaign which got me into D&D in the first place, I have decided to talk about Strahd Von Zarovich. Strahd is the mighty antagonist in Curse of Strahd. A formidable foe that few have dared to try and destroy. Hated and feared he is a villain who cares for none except maybe one. I love Strahd as a villain because he sees everything that happens in his land and it’s like playing a game of chess where Strahd has most of the pieces for both sides set up leaving almost no room to escape. Until the strong willed and faithful adventurers step up to try and outsmart the master.
D&December Day 9-12
I missed a few days because I was away from home but I am going to quickly catch up today!
Favourite creature? Honestly if a Flumph counts as a creature then a Flumph but if not then I will say an Owlbear (Specifically Waffles, RIP Hooty McHootface)
Draconic? Let’s go with one of the best NPC’s ever! Korak The Champion! He is an amazing NPC created by Mark Hulmes that definitely makes me want to create a dragonborn character at some point!
Abyssal/Fey? I love the fey in any setting so Fey it is out of those two. My favourite thing of the fey are the creatures such as Pixies and Sprites because they are so smol and cute and are really freaking cool!
Celestial/Demonic? I personally love that D&D has a race connected to both of these. The aasimar in the Swords coast and Tieflings in general, these connections allow for some really awesome character backstories and arcs.
D&December Day 7!! Today I chose to talk about my tiefling sorcerer Armani who was the first character I have ever made. I made Armani a few months after starting DCA with inspiration from Holly’s character Strix and later on in Highroller’s Kim’s character Jiutou. I fell in love with the sorcerer magic style and the potential for having a tiefling character with both infernal and draconic ancestry. I have never played as Armani and am hoping that I will have an opportunity to do so in the future.
Armani is a sorcerer with Draconic ancestry and before she went off adventuring she was an entertainer with a travelling band of entertainers (Inspiration from Cam Buckland, who is Chris Trott’s character).
Highlights of Armani’s past are:
-She was hidden from the village she lived in, upon her discovery she was chased out of town alone
-As she escaped under a fence a man with an axe swung down and cut her horn in half.
-Her horn has not grown back properly and she is terrified of axes
-Her best friend is a cat called Azriel
-She has had many loves, and the one that got away is the reason she now traverses the land as an adventurer.
D&December Day 5
I’m not going to draw anything today but I will talk about a moment of triumph that occurred with the first party I DM’d for (and am still Dming for). The campaign had begun to feel forced and no one was enjoying their characters anymore. So we decided to wrap up the campaign as quickly as possible.
A bit of context. I was DM’ing the Lost Mines of Phandelver with my own twist for certain characters. Kurnack, who had made an enemy of a Dragon Knight had been kidnapped and the party with the help of Kurnack’s old companion, Caelyn, they headed off to find him. They found him fairly easily, the party fought the Dragon Knight, with a quick hold person and some failed saves, they defeated the him. Kurnack decapitating him revealed that the man beneath was heavily scarred from burns of his past. The party buried the Knight and decided that they could not handle this growing problem (There was a lot happening) so they began their journey to the Capitol. And it is there, where we ended our first campaign and started the new one.
This may not seem like a moment of triumph in the fantasy world of D&D, however it is a triumph for myself as a DM that I managed to get through a campaign. I handled multiple NPC’s, improvised so many moments because they never followed any plans I made and I got to experience something that people like Chris Perkins and Matthew Mercer have mastered. This is a triumph because me: socially awkward, anxious and full of self-loathing managed to sit before a group of creative friends and take them through a story, even if it never went to plan and got discarded half way through.
NPC’s!!!! NPC’s are the characters that help create some of the best moments in Dungeons & Dragons!
There are a lot of NPC’s that I love so much and unfortunately I can not name all of them right now, but I will name two.
An NPC that I am looking forward to playing is Esmerelda D’Avenir from Curse of Strahd. She is a badass vistana who has a prosthetic leg and an amazing history in vampire hunting! I can not wait to play her! (Can’t draw eyes properly at all) (Esmerelda was brought to life for me by Mark Hulmes who happens to DM for High Rollers! You’re awesome Mark!)
An actual NPC from the High Roller stream is Knick Knack the Kobold. The party took Knick Knack with them because he was exiled from his home because he failed a test to win one of the party members as a bride. He turned out to be extremely brave and helped the party in rescuing dwarves and discovering information. He believed that the Moonbeam spell was the blessing of the Egg which was absolutely hilarious. In the end Knick Knack redeemed himself and went back to his tribe to reclaim his place as Prince!
