2007 and 2008 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
A semi-vertical tasting of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo that's turning heads at $14 a bottle. The 2007 received 90 points from Master of Wine Lisa Perrotti-Brown of the Wine Advocate. The 2008 is, as far as I can find, yet to be rated, so I had to see how the vintages stacked up. If you've never taken the time to do a vertical tasting (even if it is just 2 different consecutive vintages) I highly recommend you do so at some point. You don't have to spend some absurd amount on the wine, but rather just choose a reasonably priced wine that has some terroir and distinction. You may be surprised by what a difference a single year can make. I hope you all have a great start to the week; salud!
I was looking for something unusual that would still have a lot of appeal, so when I found the 2007 La Valentina Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I knew I had it. Locally for me this runs at about $17 but I've seen several places online that offer it for as little as $12. Either way, I encourage you to check out this wine or at least this DOC category and let me know what you think. Cheers!
