Sorry listen I know I’m getting way too comfortable in your house. And I didn’t mean to make you feel at all like Gene loves me more...but it might be something you have to accept. Young ducklings usually prefer their mothers anyway.

Jesse: That’s it, I’m going back to Akron. Fuck this.
Jesse: Did you know? Because I have never fought with you, but I will.

Mickey: Hi sunshine.
Mickey: I might be late? Actually in all honesty I'm not sure I want to come over.
Mickey: Not at all because of you, don't worry. I just feel like I got kicked in the nads, but like emotionally.
Mickey: And you don't need to see this whole Kim K impersonation.

The last time Selina sees James Potter is on the street inMuggle London. He holds his daughter [not knowing she is his], kisses her [Selina] on the temple, and walks away with thatdamned smile and a promise to get together again the next week. The look on hisface and the look in his eyes is seared into her memory. [She will forever seethat image when she closes her eyes.]
Scarlett asks about her father for the first time when she’sfour. Remus has just left and there’s a look of comprehension in his eyes, though he says nothing. Selina bites her lip as she considers what to say tothe little family she has left and in the end, she decides to go with a very watereddown version of the truth – that she loved her father, that he can’t be withthem, and that he loved her [and he would have if he’d known of her existence –Selina has no doubt about that].
She tells her daughter that her father was a fighter, someone who died in the war, and leaves it at that, not realizing that, yearslater, Scarlett will assume her father was a Death Eater. [It is only whenScarlett asks if her father is a Lestrange or a Rosier that a horrified Marywill disabuse her of this notion.]
Remus comes back around when Scarlett is 10, bringing Mugglecandy and hugs and promises to be around more often for his favorite niece. He takes Selina by the elbow when her daughteris playing in the garden and whispers that Scarlett should know her brother,Harry should know his sister, and won’t she try?Her eyebrows rise and her lips purse and by the time Remus leaves, it is withthe agreement that he will say nothing of James.
Scarlett turns 11 and Selina strongly considers sending herto Ilvermorny before she hears rumors of Harry Potter seen in Muggle London intattered clothing with relatives who hate him. Loathe those she is to admit it,Selina does not want to consign a child, herchild’s half-brother, to never knowing he has a family. And so Scarlettgoes to Hogwarts the same year as her brother, wears yellow and black withpride, and is pleasant to the boy with messy hair who pairs with her inherbology. Albus Dumbledore’s eyestwinkle.
She may be a Hufflepuff, but Scarlett Sapworthy has a brainthat can put together puzzles with little outside influence. It takes her twoyears to figure out the mystery of her father and Harry, for she looks forclues about her father every chance she gets. [No one seems to know who he isand her mission becomes that much more difficult.]
Harry rarely smiles, at least that she can see, and when hedoes so during herbology, Scarlett is reminded of the smile she sees in themirror, the smile she shares with the man in the photos her mother hidesunderneath drawers in her bureau, and the smile that matches the one on Harry’sface. He has her cheekbones, too, and just like that Scarlett is aware she hasa brother. There is no way to confirm her suspicions, of course, but she smilesa bit more kindly to Harry in the hallways and begins to send him packages forChristmas and his birthday. If he’s confused at the sudden display offriendship, Harry says nothing. She likesto think her father would be proud that they’ve found each other.
They are not exactly close friends, but her parents wereboth Gryffindors and Scarlett has long ago been taught what is right. She is perhaps the onlyHufflepuff to believe Harry when he says he did not put his name in the Gobletof Fire, a sign of loyalty to family anddisloyalty to her house, and she isostracized by Hannah and Susan all the same. She spends her time in thelibrary, quietly sharing a table with Harry, and when he asks her why shehasn’t yelled at him yet, she replies simply. “There are more important thingsthan houses.” [Years later, he will remember that and understand.]
When she meets Sirius Black, her godfather, the young womanasks him if her suspicions are true. His reply – or lack thereof – is moretelling than the truth. “I promised your mother I wouldn’t speak of him,” hemurmurs, though his eyes are soft and remorseful.
And then she knows. Butshe says nothing, unwilling to suffer the pained look on her mother’s face. Shespends the summer alternating between Grimmauld Place and her grandparents inSweden with her mother and when she sees Harry, Scarlett hugs him tightly. Hemight not understand why but hesmiles all the same.
She joins Dumbledore’s Army, does her best to subvertUmbridge, and when Harry gets visions of Sirius, she makes him promise not todo anything rash. He doesn’t listen, butat least she’s able to warn her mother in time to stop Sirius from rushing tohis death. [She has never had problems trusting adults, not the way Harryhas.]
The one time Albus Dumbledore speaks to her is during hersixth year. “There will come a time when Harry will need you but won’t realizeit,” he says out on the battlements, as if he’s talking about the quidditchgame. “I trust you’ll be there for him, Miss Sapworthy.” The conversation isodd and he speaks in riddles, but Scarlett nods all the same. She is a Hufflepuff and she is loyal. [AndHarry is her brother. She already knows she would die for him.]
No one is able to convince Harry that Draco Malfoy is taken care of, and he lets Death Eatersinto the school all the same. Dumbledore dies, Snape flees, and Scarlett cursesDraco in the legs before he can meet Snape. He’s taken prisoner, the Malfoysgive up everything for his safety, and suddenly the war doesn’t seem thatunwinnable.
Scarlett attends the Weasley-Delacour wedding with NevilleLongbottom, wand hidden up her sleeve as she dances. She eyes the awkwardredhead that she can just tell is Harry and her eyes does not move from hisform as Kingsley’s patronus comes to warn them that the Ministry has fallen.
The Golden Trio is not as smart as they think they are and whenthey move to leave together – almost as if it was planned – Scarlett joinsthem. “Dumbledore left this to me,” Harry argues with her when they come out inMuggle London. She sees the Death Eaters before Hermione does and her wandworkis quick.
“I’m coming with you,” she decrees, ignoring the annoyanceon Hermione’s face and the confusion on Ron’s. [She has never gotten along withthem as well as Harry, though perhaps it is because she feels a protection overher family that they do not understand.]
“He left this mission to us, Scarlett. I appreciate your help, but I won’t be the reason you get yourself killed,” he mutters, his facestubbornly resolute. She remembers the words Dumbledore spoke to her and herlips thin.
And though she hasn’t spoken of this to her mother, hasnever considered speaking of this to Harry, Scarlett knows she’s going to haveto do so now. Because he’s stubborn [like she is, like their father was] andsomething tells her he’s not going to let her tag along if he doesn’t know thetruth. So she tells him, in a rush, that his dad is her dad, too and that, yes, she’s known for awhile and she’s sorryshe didn’t tell him but she didn’t know how.She tries to ignore the betrayed look in Harry’s eyes as she tells him thatthis makes him her younger brother and, since she’s the elder sibling, he can’ttell her what to do. So she’s coming withhim.
His jaw sets like hers and though she’s not sure he believesher, he lets her come along – they don’t speak of it, but they instinctivelyknow that the only safe place for them is Sirius. Some obscure spell found in the Black family library verifies her claims andthe trio becomes a quartet. It goes unspoken that Sirius will not be joiningthem – aside from Scarlett, he is all Harry has left in the world and Harry isnot willing to jeopardize that. They leave quickly. With four people to carrythe horcruxes, Ron does not get as angry and so he does not leave.
Since the Malfoys have fled to France, they are taken to aMalfoy Manor run by Bellatrix Lestrange where they find Ollivander, Luna, andDean. Each of them have been tortured and when Scarlett is taken, she can stillhear Harry screaming from the dungeon. “That’smy sister. Take me instead.” She remains resolute. I am a Sapworthy and a Potter. I will not give them the satisfaction ofmy tears.
They are saved by Dobby and Kreacher, the latter taking aknife to the chest, and spend a couple of days recovering with Sirius before itends. Scarlett hugs her mother in the Room of Requirement, raises an eyebrow athow Harry looks at Ginny, and clenches her jaw like her father used to when shehears Voldemort’s magnified voice. The battle is blood and spells and death andwhen she sees Remus go down, Scarlett’s anguish is second only to Sirius’.
[Harry still goes todie on his own, turns the resurrection stone in his hand three times and seeshis parents and Remus. He can’t look his father in the eye and yet he can’tstop himself because Scarlett has hiseyes. Lily looks at her son, tells him to be brave, and when she gets closeshe whispers that she’s glad he had a sister. She’s thankful he’s not alone. She tells him that she loves him, but it’s okay if he allows another woman inhis life. James is more difficult. His face is anguished and his steps areheavy. “I love your mother. But I loved Selina, too, a long time ago. If I’dknown, things would have been different, son. Tell your sister I love her, too.”Harry nods absently, not knowing that he will survive this encounter in theforest with Voldemort.]
And then the war is over. Neville kills the snake, Harryjumps up alive, and Scarlett resolves to smack him silly. But she’ll hug himfirst, if only out of relief that he’s survived, he’s made it, and maybe thingscan be some form of normal.
In the months that follow, Sirius moves in with Selina, notwanting to be alone and recognizing that now that the truth is out, things aregoing to have to change. He’s packing up boxes in Grimmauld when the siblingsarrive at Selina’s house in the country for the first time.
Harry has long ago learned that his father was not the sainthe’d pictured in his mind as a child. And though he’s resigned himself to theknowledge that Scarlett is his sister, it’s difficult for him to swallow hispride and meet Selina, to ask her what his father was like. But he does, whenthe celebrations have died down and Scarlett has twisted his arm enough. Selinais beautiful and he can see why his father loved her when she pulls him tightand hugs him as if he were her own [as ifhis mother didn’t pull the love of her life away from her, as if his father didnot leave her a single mother whose sibling is The Chosen One].
“Your father was a great many things,” she says, voicechoking up as she speaks of James Potter for the first time in almost a decade.“Brave, noble, eager to show off. He wasn’t perfect – he had a pranking habitthat showed up as a mean streak, he bullied Snape most of our Hogwarts career,he had an arrogance to him that I could hardly tolerate at times. But he wasalso a good listener, a fierce, fierce friend, and even when things were bad,he would be there for someone he loved in a heartbeat. He was a magnificentquidditch player when he applied himself. He was a flirt. And he trusted hisfriends with his life. He loved you very much, Harry, and he was so proud ofyou. He had a great many hopes for you.”
Her eyes are watery as she smiles and Harry reaches out andsqueezes her hand. He’s never been good at offering comfort, but Scarlett andSirius have been trying to show him what family means and he thinks he can consider Selina part of his, too. [So hespeaks honestly, offering up a silent apology to his mother.]
“I never thought I’d have a family. Thank you for giving meone.”
[And when Scarlett Potter, two years later, walks down theaisle on Sirius’ arm, she doesn’t wonder why Neville looks intimidated andHarry so proud of himself. But she’ll smack him for that later.]
“I may have been admiring you not so secretly.”

“I think you’re a bit drunk,” she responded, her eyebrowrising. “And I think that you have a wife at home that would rather not hearyou saying things like that. Especially not to me.” Though Lily and Selina haddeveloped a friendship, the brunette knew that there would always be the sharedhistory of loving James Potter.
It had been easier than she had expected, to fall back intothe friendship they’d shared before they’d begun dating, to be able to tell himthings and know that he would help because he wanted to just as much.
She didn’t want it togo away, but she didn’t want to stoke the flame either.
Maybe it was pathetic of her. Selina didn’t really knowanymore. But right now, as they sat at the bar drinking – the way they had beenevery Wednesday for the past two months – she wondered if she hadn’toverstepped. If she should have stoppedcoming a long time ago.
He seemingly ignored her words, waving them aside with hishand as he took another sip from his drink. It was his fourth and as she satwith him, she wondered why she hadn’t bothered to take him home yet. Why shewas letting him tell her such things as if they would change the past, as ifshe would allow him to ruin the best thing in his life. Because the best thing in his life had neverbeen her.
“Do you ever think about it?” he asked her, rather abruptly.
Selina raised her eyebrow. “What do you mean?” she asked, though she felt the familiar knot in her stomach, the knot that meant he wasgoing to say something that would fuckher up. That would keep her coming back, would keep her tethered to him. She loved and hated him for it.
“About if we’d stayed together.” Because it would not have ended otherwise. She would have been his wife, would fall asleep and wake up to him.
She took another sip of her drink and looked at him, alcoholclouding her judgment somewhat. Selina bit her lip, eyes widening, lipsparting.
“Yes,” she admitted, twirling her straw in her hand. Of course she had. She’d been with him asshe became an adult, as he was just on the precipice. Of course she had thought about the future with him.
“But you shouldn’t.” Her voice was low. He had a wife whoadored him, who she knew he adored aswell.
“It’s just,” he really had been drinking a bit too much andwhen the bartender came back, he ordered an extra so she could catch up. “Fuck, I sound like a girl but marriage is supposedto be the happily ever after. And it’s harder than I thought. But I don’t thinkit would have been so hard with you.”
The look she gave him took him back to Quidditch practices, towalks around the lake, to angry sex in empty classrooms.
“It would never have been that easy,” she replied, voicehard.
Maybe he just wouldhave preferred compromising for her. Or maybe not. Selina was in noposition to know. Though she’d made friends with Lily, she had never becomeprivy to the inner workings of their relationship. It was easier that way.
“Maybe you were it,” he said, the alcohol speaking half-truths that he would not have admitted to even if they were true. “Maybe you were it and Ididn’t know it.” She knew better than tobelieve him, but she leaned closer anyway.
He’d never been good at thinking before acting and hepressed his lips to hers, hungrily, lazily.
He was just a man, after all.
Alcohol was fantastic at lowering inhibitions.
And she had alwaysloved him.
An hour later they were in a room at the Leaky Cauldron, asilencing charm up on the door as he pounded her into the mattress and shecaressed his skin with her lips.
She could not stopherself, could not pull back, could do nothing more but let him lie to her withhis body.
When it was over, she looked down at the first man she hadever loved and closed her eyes. Remorse.Guilt. A wave of her wand and he was dressed. Another wave and an obliviate would have him wake up with norecollection of that night. When she left the room, she did so knowing it wouldbe the last time she saw him.
Two hours and a crack of apparition will place her inScandinavia, with her parents, where she will stay, belly growing, until thefather of her child is murdered by a man with snakelike eyes.
Scarlett Anthea Sapworthy will be born exactly six months tothe day before the younger half-brother she will not know until adulthood. Becauseall children know who Harry Potter is. [Tohis credit, Harry will take to her exceptionally well. And Selina will watchwith both anguish and pride.]
Remus will not see what he does not want to see and Albus Dumbledore will look at her with pity.
When Sirius escapes, years later, and sees her, he will lookat her with something akin to pity, love, and remonstration all at once. Harry should know, he will tell her. Becauseshe does not know how her daughter’s brother has grown up, she will not agreewith him. But Sirius will love his goddaughter all the same. He will watch them both.
“He told me so many things,” Selina will cry onto hisshoulder when she is finally able to grieve.“And I…it’s always been him.”
It will always be him.
“Will you be my Valentine?”
@jamesxpctter
She wakes up on February 14, 1977, to find red and pinkglitter hearts strewn along James’ duvet. For a moment, she’s concerned as sheburrows into his warmth, the early morning sun just beginning to stream throughthe window. Did we not remember tosilence the curtains?
Regardless, his roommates still slept the entire night oneither side of them, cognizant of the fact that their best mate’s girlfriendhad snuck up after curfew for more thanjust cuddling. She hadn’t missed the smirk on Sirius’ face or the almost snarl on Peter’s – even Remus’ lips had quirked – when she’dunabashedly joined James on the large bed and closed the curtains. Thesilencing charm had followed and Selina remembers little else other than him.
She is still idly considering how the glitter had gotten ontothe bed - she feels no shame - when she feels James’ arms wrap around her waist, his voice thick withsleep. “Stop thinking, love,” he murmurs, his lips punctuating his words as hepresses them to her neck. “You could wake a bloke up with your thinking.” Hiswords are uttered with an adoration that still makes her limbs feel tingly.Though he can’t see it, she smiles and closes her eyes. This is what people mean what they use the word contentment.
“But…” she begins, her voice failing her as his lipscontinue to move over her skin, his fingers playing with the hem of his t-shirtshe’d pulled on late last night. James’ fingers can make her forget aboutanything and for a moment, she lets them. Her eyes open as she moves her hipsback against him, feeling his hardness under the soft swell of her ass. Shesmirks.
He’s always loved shagging in the morning and even themostly rule-abiding Selina can think of no better way to start the day.
It’s a Monday and she has a free period until lunchtime. He’snever minded skiving off and even if hehad, she doesn’t think he would today. She turns in his arms, her lipsmoving across his collarbone as his fingers hook onto her knickers and slowlypull them down her legs. There’s a heatemanating in his eyes and she feels the familiar twitch low in her belly as herlips finally meet his.
Her hands move to his back, fingernails digging into hiships as one of her hands moves to his cock – he can never be bothered to put on boxers after shagging – and slowlytugs on it. The sound he makes is a low groan mixed with a growl that she cannever get enough of. His lips move over her skin, down her breasts, reverent ashis fingers slowly move up her body. He makes her skin feel as if it’s on firewith each touch, each kiss, and eventually she loses control and pulls his headto hers as her tongue delves into his mouth.
He enters her slowly, his eyes locking onto hers as hepushes her hair out of her eyes and presses another kiss to her lips. Her legslock around his calves as her hips rise to meet his, the slow and steady pace bothgratifying and teasing. Her fingers still over his back and her lips touch hisjawline as she tightens around him. Ilove you is on her lips, barely more than a whisper. When he spills insideof her, his lips are on her forehead as he repeats the endearment back to her,a sincerity in his tone that she only hears when he declares his love. He never wants her to doubt him.
This is not justshagging. This is making love. She has never known the former, only thelatter. For that, she is lucky. She istreasured. She is loved. And she lovesin return.
Once is not enough for them – it is never enough – and before she can catch her breath, his lipsare leaving marks on her neck. She isn’tcomplaining.
For round two, she’s on her hands and knees, fingersgrasping onto the bedpost in front of her while he thrusts into her from behind, one hand on her breast while the other is on her hips. When she reaches herclimax, he bites her shoulder as he follows. It’s strangely possessive, but he’s the only one who will see. Sheturns over, sated, as he looks down at her, hand running through her hair.
“So,” he asks with the smirk on his face widening as hiseyes screams mischievousness. “Will you be my Valentine?”
Selina laughs at that, laughs at the question but mostly atthe way he’s asked it – freshly shagged as her hair sticks to her forehead. There’s playfulness behind his eyes, it’s true, but there also lurks anadoration – a love – that she’sstill surprised to see in their depths. Becausehow can someone so amazing look at her like she’s his entire world? It’s stillsomething to get used to, and she willenjoy the process.
She bites her lip when she realizes he’s waiting for ananswer, her fingers lazily drawing circles on his side down to his hip.
“Well, when you look at me like that,” she whispers. “Howthe bloody hell could I say no?”
His smile is like thesun.
She never does figure out where the heart-shaped glitter onhis duvet came from, but as she allows James to walk her to class with thebesotted expression only a man in love whoalso just got shagged can give, she finds that she doesn’t care.
He is far fromperfect, but he is hers and she is his. How could she ever complain about that?
♡:Accidentally falling asleep together
“Come join us, love,” the voice called over the din of theGryffindor common room.
The look she sent him in return was withering.
“I’d rather not,” she replied as she turned back to theparchment, spelling possible plays with her wand as she deciphered whichstrategy to use against Slytherin the following month. They’d been playing harder than usual and she wanted a way to win without sinking to their level.
“I would’ve thought you’d want to spend as much time lookingat me as you possibly could.” James widened his eyes as her own flickered up.She snorted.
“Stop giving me the puppy dog eyes, Potter. They don’t work.”She tilted her head to the side as she looked at the parchment, strategicallymoving a chaser and a beater.
“You don’t want to listen to our pranks?” he asked. “Youcould talk about how much you like looking at me. And other things.” His voice lowered.
She raised a brow and turned away, ignoring the laughs ofthe rest of the common room.
“Are you saying you don’t like looking at me? You don’t loveme anymore? Oh Merlin, my heart is crushed.” His lips curved down as he saidit, but Selina could hear the teasing tone in his voice. She bit back a smile.
“Stop being annoying.”
For a moment, she didn’t hear him speak. But then she felt abreath on her neck and his lips moved tantalizingly close to her skin. “I thought beingannoying turned you on,” he murmured.
Selina straightened, but didn’t move. Her lips curved into asmall smirk as James’ lips descended onto where her neck met her shoulder andlingered. She sighed. He won. He always won.
“Give me five.”
Grinning triumphantly, he pecked her lips and made his way back to the twocouches by the fireplace and began listening to Sirius tell another storyinvolving booze and an embarrassing moment.
A few minutes later, her parchment was in her bag and shewas leaned up against James on the couch, his arm around her. She liked feelinghis warmth.
As the younger years went to bed and the older studentsfinally began studying, Selina pulled her parchment back out as James read histransfiguration book. It grew later and she continued to get lost in thequidditch moves, not even realizing that everyone else had gone up to bed.Everyone, that is, except for the man whose head lay in her lap. Her lips quirkedand she put her parchment back in her bag before leaning back against thecouch, her hand in his hair. In a minute, she thought, I’ll wake James up.
The photo Peter took of them sleeping on the couch the nextmorning – James snored and she was onlyslightly drooling – was pinned to the house notice board the next day.
