ive been workshopping the worst ending for my datv rewrite and ive decided on the 'solas tranquilizes himself' idea from the artbook with my twist being he tranquilizes my lavellan vherana with him out of a complicated fucked up mix of hate and grief

basically if vherana spends the entire story choosing the antagonizing route with him, and then finally defeats him at the final fight and the precipice of the veil coming down (a blighted titan is also consuming minrathous in the background but this isnt about her rn), he'll pretend like thats that and hes giving up, and then reach his hand out to her, which she takes, then he snaps his hand forward for their forehead and tranquilizes her

he then catches her in his arms and then immediately tranquilizes himself, causing them both to then fall in a heap before any of vherana's allies around can even realize what just happened

we would be here forever if i went into detail about why solas does it to them, so to summarize its "i hope you die i hope we both die"

and if youre wondering why vherana fell for it when solas is her sworn enemy at this point its because beating him took absolutely everything out of them. they are closer than shes ever been to dropping dead, blood from every orifice, probably has lost another limb at this point

so when solas suddenly appears lucid to vherana in her own sort-of-stupor, and feigns seeing reason in her actions, it looks like this to her

as much as i love papae solas the more i develop my lavellan's story esp in the context of my datv rewrites, i realize how much the babies ever after trope sucks for their character. like i dont care much about babies ever after when its written by women because women can do whatever they want forever, but for vherana, it just does not fit her now that ive given it some thought, esp since ive de-canonized almost all of datv and dont have thousands of years in fade jail to work with. but i really REALLY want papae solas

so i was thinking like, since shes almost in her 40s anyway at the start of DAI, maybe i should just straight up make her come with a kid already installed. ive seen people do this with their inkys before and it fucking rules. i love single mothers who are unpleasant people and you know who loves them even more than me? solas

and now that ive given it some thought, quite honestly papae solas as a step dad who tried and failed miserably not to attach like a fungus to vherana's kid is way hotter to me than him just becoming a father via blood ties

also it works for vherana's character in the context of the fact that because elven fertility is so poor, dalish women in particular were pressured into childbirth for the sake of the clan (note this isnt canon, its an idea presented by word of god yeeears ago, but i like that messiness and decided to add it to my canon) and because vherana for most of inquisition was a dalish devout (ESP for the approval of her mother, the keeper at the time) they had her child with a mage in the lavellan clan out of obligation. the biggest part of their backstory pre-inquisition was that vherana was the only non-mage out of the keeper's five daughters, so it makes sense there to. it was for approval, to ""apologize"" to her deeply devout mage family for her failure to be born a mage by giving a mage grandchild.

bio dad didnt care, it wasnt his first obligation baby and it wouldnt be the last, he left them to be raised by the village. vherana didnt expect to love their child much either after they were born, but she ended up loving them anyway, and after being sent to the conclave and ending up in haven vherana was grabbing the throats of any shemlen in arms distance like MY CHILD GO TO THE FREE MARCHES RIGHT NOW AND BRING ME MY CHILD

im still figuring out her child as a character but ive decided theyre going to be non-binary. their mamae is a woman but uses she/they pronouns so the idea of them turning 6 and deciding to take half of mamae's pronouns like its a prized family heirloom is pricelessly funny to me.

also the fact that they get close to solas and in their vulnerable age of 9-10 imprinted on him as a father, only for him and his mamae to get divorced, is just a goldmine of opportunities for the 'joplin' arc of my story where its just two people making their divorce the problem of all of thedas. and vherana is not a mage so shes able to shut solas out post-trespasser but her child is one and keeps wandering into solas' wretched dreams where he is so so sad and so so happy to see them. "da'fen look at how big you are growing" with the most broken up smile on his loser cuck face. literally going into the fade to spend time with solas in his dreams like its court ordered divorce visitation. watching him fight for his life to not ask them how their mamae is doing. in this way they are kris deltarune
