(Appears out of nowhere) THEDAS IS SO BEHIND ON MEDICAL TERMS BECAUSE THEY BURN THEIR BODIES IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT UNDEAD/POSSESSION
I’m so behind on the main chapters--I’m only at chapter 7 so I don’t trust Qin Yi but that Grand Obsession though--Honestly, I’m pretty invested. I enjoyed the story a lot.
But more importantly, the end of it and that one [middle branch, left] ending being my first ending, I was like “Are--did we just possibly--IN A NIKKI GAME?”
I’m so confused, but I’m also onboard with it and that is such a weird feeling haha
But hot potato, those two endings on the right hand-side and some of his lines are OUCH and OH MY GOD NO. Especially considering we start out the story knowing we’re in another story.
It blew my mind so much that I ended up responding to some of the tagged posts
Da2 so far gave me lots of feelings, mostly on passage of time, not gonna address all the companions rn, just a few from act 1 and the beginning of act 2, plus some random stuff
Having meeting Anders beforehand in Awakening and traveling with a flirty witted mage ( who still resentful about circles, templars, people's lack of empathy with the cause -as he should- but not hosting anything besides his own thoughts inside himself) really makes an impression on you upon meeting him again in Da2, he still there but less then more, but less. He seemed fragile, still a smart mouth and blunt (and a healer!), something like "if you have meeted me one year before I'd be more/I'd be myself/ I'll only hurt you now".
Justice works in extremes and amplify emotions, and there's too many injustices in the world and Kirkwall. Wynne had Faith with her and Cole was Compassion (on his own body), Justice does feels like a lot to handle, it feels like it sours quickly. Less than 4 years and he's at edge of Vengeance, is Vengeance.
Fenris was not that hard to have around as i thought he'd be, he have strong takes on magic/ mages who comes from a place of trauma and a physical place of extremes (Tevinter), he have a backstory, a baggage.
His and Isabela's banters and conversations are always a delight, him in the Fade was wild (and a mess, he's so very strong and the entire fight was a Lot). Parallels and sharp words who intended to hurt between him and Anders, between him and Merrill, him and Hawke. Apologies not being a foreign concept, not hurting any pride (ha). His song lingering inside my brain " Lady, beautiful of the sun, if you give to the others (freedom), should it not also be given to me?"
Carver, my beloved. This one became a bit personal due the older sibling bit. Carver is resentful and full of rivalry, anger with too many places to go, confrontational, to the point of picking templar sided opinions in the middle of conversations fully aware of his sibling "apostate" status. A young warrior between two older mage siblings, coping with the loss of a sister, of a father, of having to hold on Hawke for a while, "to walk on their shadow". I can't ever have any other feeling for him than "he's a younger brother and I'd do exactly what Hawke did to take care of him, try to talk all the time, let him have his anger and rage, get a house, weird/hard jobs to make sure he's properly taken care of and never have to go through any of this again."
His friendship being something hard to earn works just fine for my Hawke bc i do think he have things to sort out, and that's a thing that only himself can do, while maturing and making his own path.
(I'm also a fully support of 'he'd never join the templars out of spit without regretting at least a bit, his siblings are free mages, were raised like this, and despite his ongoing rivalry thing, that seems like a step too further into a territory of hurt.')
Hawke is a beautiful wreck of human being, mage, older sibling, trying their hardest to provide a home, money, security to their family. Odd jobs, odd friends. Friends, who would thought! On a city made of chains, a perfectly group of ragtags. Varric is a balm in the middle of it all, words coming from the stone who doesn't dream but sprouts the most beautiful stories.
The entire world happening inside a single city, Ketojan's amulet on Hawke's neck, "you are worth following" ringing in their ears as fire consumed him.
Pangs of hurt here and there, always aching. The trip to the Fade cut a bit deeper that it should, Aveline's "I'm less opposed to the Gallows/Circles now that I've seen what mages can do", Fenris' "what does magic touch that it doesn't spoil". Not a single 'how are you feeling?' in months. Words coming from a place of fear and judgement slapped at Hawke's face.
Nursing themself back to their feet bc things still happening, it's been 3 years! And there's more years to come, and letters to answer and problems to solve! Beautiful Hawke. Eventually the bird must land someday, but not right now.
the dao companions take turns cooking at camp. who’s good at it? who sucks?
(a series of headcanons)
(unranked) Shale - Shale does not eat plants or animals, so I imagine she is uninvolved in food prep around camp. Shale is an outlier and cannot be counted.
7. Wynne - As a resident of the Circle Tower, Wynne has eaten boring, sub-par food for her whole life. Now that she’s old, her taste has ossified. Things with both salt and pepper are spicy to her. Wynne would be a terrible cook based on this alone, but also, she’s never once had to cook in her whole life. She burns everything she touches. Everyone dreads Wynne’s night to make dinner. (Who even makes the food at Circle Tower? Do... do you think tranquil mages do it? Hope not.)
6. Zevran - Yes, he’s skilled at crafting poisons, but I don’t see any reason why Zevran would learn to cook. Crow apprentices probably eat gruel three meals a day. When Zevran became a full-fledged Crow and gained a little independence, you know our boy would begin a whirlwind tour of every restaurant in Antiva City. Like many city dwellers, he’s too busy with work (e.g. killing people) and there’s too much good food readily available to justify cooking. I think Zevran’s got a refined pallet and could pick up the skill quickly if he wanted to, but when he first joins the party, I just think it’d be funny if he was inept.
5. Morrigan - Everything Morrigan learned about cooking, she learned from Flemeth. Consequently, I believe Morrigan knows how to skillfully cook dishes that are totally unappetizing to the rest of the party. When it’s her turn to make dinner, she spends the early part of the day foraging for weird shit: glowing fungus on logs, crunchy little lizards, lots of eggs but somehow never chicken eggs. She thinks her recipes are great and they remind her of home. She’s legitimately most comfortable cooking soup in a cauldron, because that’s what Mom used to do.
4. Alistair - Alistair spent his formative years in a monastery, and community meal prep is an integral part of cloistered life. I think Alistair got regular practice in the kitchen and has solid cooking fundamentals. The monastery got him in the habit of cooking for large groups; because of this, he tends to make too much food, and gets a little bemused if he has to portion food for only one or two people. He’s also very efficient at food prep. The man used to spend whole afternoons skinning potatoes. He can dice an onion like a fiend.
3. Oghren - Do you think Branka ever cooked one meal in her entire life? Oghren was definitely the house-spouse of that relationship. If you want a bit of heart-wrenching headcanon - maybe Branka occasionally got so absorbed in her smithing work, Oghren’s cooking was the only thing that reminded her to eat. Oghren’s not only got fundamentals, but he strikes me as the kind of man who can cook a few dishes extremely well. When the party manages to find him some familiar ingredients from Orzammar, Oghren cooks a dinner so delicious that it leaves everyone incredulous.
2. Leliana - Leliana has similar cooking experience to Alistair since she lived in a cloister, but also she grew up as a bard in Orlais. Leliana was trained in many arts, and it stands to reason that cooking would be one of them. She is a wonderful chef. She does her best to prepare multiple small dishes with contrasting flavors. Everyone tries to persuade her to take extra turns making meals. Unfortunately, Leliana constantly laments the lack of fancy ingredients or decent cookware that could display her craft to the fullest effect. She’ll make something absolutely delicious, but spend the whole meal bemoaning, “Oh, if only I had Orlesian goat cheese instead of this Ferelden stuff...” This is the slightly irksome price to pay for her cooking.
1. Sten - Listen. What if Sten was the best cook in the group? I have no particular justification for this, except that it would be funny as hell. The party marvels in hushed whispers how he can somehow make one (1) dead rabbit plus dried trail rations taste like a feast. He never explains himself. In Par Vollen, are Stens a proud caste of warrior-chefs? Is this something about our Sten in particular? We shall never know. That cookie was a revelation for him. All his vast knowledge of cooking, yet this amazing concoction was hitherto unknown. He has to uncover the cookies’ secrets and bake them for himself.
dao companions ranked by how deliciously angsty their urn of sacred ashes guardian questions are
8. Morrigan - There was so much the Guardian could have asked her. Anything about how she pushes people away and is super standoffish? Some witch-god Mom angst? Some vague foreshadowing for the dark ritual? But alas - the DAO writers truly never take an opportunity to care about her inner life. I guess some people find it funny or badass how she ignores the Guardian? I think this was just lazy writing. Morrigan ranks lowest because she was robbed.
7. Shale - The Guardian essentially tells her, “you’re too cool for me to fuck with you” and tbh I respect that. But it’s a very cursory exchange, so Shale’s gotta rank low on this list.
6. Sten - Tone-wise, I was never sure how seriously I was supposed to take Sten’s crime. Besides ‘going a bit apeshit and killing people that one time’ he seems like a pretty cool dude. Your Warden kills people literally all the time? But I appreciate Sten’s simple, “I have never denied that I failed.” Glad to see him admit some fault. But alas, the man is temperamentally unsuited to angst, plus angst is a non-issue under the Qun, so he also has to rank low.
5. Wynne - Wynne is an overbearing busybody and the Guardian’s callout is hilariously reasonable for her. “Do you wonder if you spout only platitudes, burned into your mind in the distant past? Perhaps you’re only a tool used to spread the word of the Chantry?” My circle-hating, Zev-romance Surana was setting off goddamn airhorns in the background. And Wynne even admits to a little self-doubt! In the most boring and mild-mannered way possible. This level of angst is acceptable for an eighty year old woman barely kept alive via magical spirit.
4. Alistair - He’s sad about Duncan and wishes he could have saved him - or perhaps died instead. This is solid angst. Not too heavy-handed, but it could easily be explored further. Feels very in-line with his character progression as he wrestles with his responsibilities. Alistair’s devotion to Duncan is honestly very sweet. This is the level of angst I baseline would have wanted from anybody.
3. Zevran - That transition from, “Oh, is it my turn now?” to “...how do you know about that?!” is (chef kiss). At least in my playthrough, this was the first hint I got that his character was gonna be any deeper than sex and murder jokes. After this exchange, I was like a bloodhound, sniffing out that good good angst, constantly bothering this dude to find the next dialogue tree where I learned the details of this story. Now *that’s* delicious angst.
2. Leliana - “Why do you say the Maker speaks to you, when all know the Maker has left? He spoke only to Andraste. Do you believe yourself her equal?” God, this was so brutal!!! I was obsessed when I first heard it and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Was she just lying to feel special? Why would she persist in telling the lie to the Warden, then? Why such an unlikely lie? Maybe her vision was real and God actually talked to her? Maybe she truly believes in her vision, but actually, she’s just magically-addled, or perhaps just a regular insane person?? And she 100% fights the Guardian on it!!! Everybody else who gets a real question offers a bit of confirmation of his criticism, but she’s like, “I know my vision was real, fuck you.” I’m still gonna write fic about her reaction to this...
1. Oghren - ??? Who saw this sincerity coming??? How the fuck is Oghren the most interesting character to take with you through this challenge? He’s candid and self-aware? The biggest surprise of all was realizing what a great character Oghren could have been, if the writers didn’t think that alcoholism and misogyny were hilarious personality traits. Oghren, my man, you deserved better. But ugh, I hate havin’ you in my party.
Does this mean I can make Ayana a dynasty warriors outfit
what is ayana's motivation for joining the phantoms thieves? What is it that causes her awakening?
Well, the first thing is that it was kind of an accident. She was chasing after Yusuke and them in order to give back something he had dropped--she ended up walking right into their Mementos opening.
She’s cynical of society at times, having had some small facts about her spun out of control. But she still holds onto hope that there is still good. She joins the PT because A) She found out their identity B) She can’t do anything for the world by herself. Perhaps she can do something this way. But make no mistake, she doesn’t believe that the PT are the answer to everything.
She’s accepted herself, but what stops her from completely Awakening is more or less something that Haru went through. Ayana gets her complete Persona in Mementos, inbetween Madarame and Kaneshiro, facing an abusive coworker.
Does anyone say Persona spells when you’re trying really hard not to swear (or swear as much) or is it just me?
I tend to favor Mabufula
