Picrew creations: Summer Fun, Siren sisters
Background: Youngest Vivaldi sister. Her father was a Rivaini man who was presumed to be lost at sea until he returned with a baby girl of his own. No one really had an explanation for this, not even him. All he would tell people was that he’d ‘met a lovely woman and had a daughter, but the mother wanted nothing to do with her and abandoned them.’ This was also his explanation for returning to Rivain. He was going to raise his daughter near the sea, just as he had been raised. This also allowed her two older sisters to check in and visit whenever they pleased. Her song is a mixture of both of her older sisters: she can deploy it audibly through instruments or visually through acrobatics.
Personality: Certified man hater, just like her mother. If a man displeases her enough, she’ll invite him over under the guise of enjoying an evening together but will use the opportunity instead to dispose of him. None of her victims have ever been found and are all still presumed lost at sea.
Romance: Could be with a man but it would have to be the perfect man. Otherwise, she’d much rather date women or nonbinary folks. She needs someone who isn’t intimidated by her and can get her to let her walls down. Ultimately, she just needs someone to make her feel safe and loved, something she’s never felt from anyone but her father and sisters. She’s a tough nut to crack, but once you’re in, you’re in for life.
Name meaning: In music, timbre means the unique quality of a sound

She and her talon are extremely protective of each other, but you couldn't waterboard that admission out of either of them. Looks to Teia as an older sister. Complicated romantic history with House Dellamorte. Long-time (unrequited) crush on Lucanis when they were growing up. Dated Illario briefly in her late teens. Of course, that ended badly, and she didn't take it well. Viago almost poisoned Ilario over it. Absolutely devastated when Caterina told them Lucanis was dead. Absolutely elated when she learned that wasn’t true. Smart, funny, goofy around those she considers friends. Cold, calculating, and pragmatic in the traditional Crow way.

Chantrea as: a Tarot Card
For alternate timelines:
Background: Born to two Antivan elves in the alienage who owed a debt to some important merchant. They had to choose between giving Chantrea to the Crows or being gruesomely murdered, so they chose to send her to the House Nero. She was put through the traditional Crow training of assassinations, marksmanship, poisoning, and seduction. She has always been viewed as an asset, but not as a person. Not until after Teia became a Talon. The two women became fast friends, bonding over their love of bothering Viago, who she looked up to and admired, who she looked up to and admired but not as much as Teia. Teia made her feel seen, a feat no other Crow had been able to accomplish in her entire time with the order
How she joined the Veilguard: Initially, she wasn’t going to. She had contracts to focus on and things that needed her attention. That is, until the blighted dragon attacked Treviso, her home. It killed and injured so many people, her people, civilians, and Crows alike. She was furious. She wanted, no needed, to get revenge against those damned elven gods or whatever they were. To hell with her contracts. She would come back and finish any that weren’t kill during this fight for survival against ancient, blighted gods.
Personality: She’s cold, calculating, and aloof. Very guarded and quiet, but she’s a silent observer. Not much happens around her with her noticing/making a note of it. There wasn’t a stereotype about the Antivan Crows that she didn’t perfectly fit. She was as deadly as she was beautiful, but she refused to commit to a relationship because she saw them as a potential weakness to be exploited, and she didn’t want anyone else getting hurt because of her.
Romance: If anything, it would start off as friends or friends with benefits. She would try to convince herself that’s all it was for a long time before finally admitting to herself and them that she had feelings for them.
Likes: Wine, seafood, pasta, Antivan cuisine and wine, gymnastics, athletic and weapons training, traveling new places and trying new foods, snakes, learning new poisons
Dislikes: most men (with few exceptions)

Her father got blighted when the dragon attacked Treviso. He died shortly after and her mother sent her a letter to notify her. She couldn’t bring herself to face her mother so she missed her father’s funeral
Almost all of her clothes are black and form-fitting
Life as a Crow is dangerous, so she is always on edge and watching out for danger. The only time she ever really feels safe is when she’s with someone she trusts entirely (like Robert) or she’s somewhere she knows she has the tactical advantage.
If she could have a pet, she could choose a snake. No doubt in my mind she would have a venomous snake whose venom she used on contracts

Modern AU ideas (non Piccrew): What my OC would drive
Background: Daughter of Magister Sephus, who has long backed the Venatori since the Inquisition. She never questioned his stance on things until she was older, after Alaine eloped and was disowned by his family. She had looked for him, but word was that he was dead. In his memory, she joined the Shadow Dragons at 24. He had always inspired her to be a better person, so she wanted to make Minrathous a better place for non-mages like him. She lost her eye in a fight with a Venatori. The blood mage shattered a glass window near her and a shard landed in her eye, permanently blinding her on that side.
How she joined the Veilguard: She lost loved ones and friends when the dragon attacked Minrathous. She couldn’t join right away. She needed to make sure the people she cared about would be safe and taken care of while she was gone. She also needed to find a way to forward her information to the Shadows while they were in hiding. She knew they wouldn’t stop raiding the slavers, but she needed to make sure the information she was supplying them wouldn’t get them killed or worse. Once she had that assurance, she joined the Lighthouse. However, once she arrived, she found it empty. The Caretaker informed her that everyone was in Rivain on vacation, so she made her way to the resort to meet up with them.
Personality: Warm and welcoming. She can carry herself like an Altus when needed but does her best not to use that persona unless dealing with Venatori or other Altus/Magisterium family members. She loves to tease and joke around. A very fun person to be around, and an even better friend.
Romance: Alaine Xavier Thorne, childhood friend, long-time crush, presumed dead by her for like 5 years.
Likes: strawberries, peaches, swimming, reading, exploring new places, skipping stones on the sea, fish on a stick, wine
Dislikes: Magisters, Venatori, blood mages, slavers, her family

Dairine’s father was also a magister. Their marriage was arranged. They secretly hate each other and openly have affairs.
Titus has supported the Venatori since the Inquisition. Matthias has been a Venatori since the Inquisition.
Rian’s parents have tried and failed to arrange marriages for her several times; they finally gave up after she lost her eye, deeming her undesirable. Most notable was Alaine’s brother Gavin, whom she rejected twice. Matthias continued to try to set Rian up with his Venatori pals after their parents had given up on finding her a husband. She used these ‘dates’ to get information to feed to the shadows about the Venatori and the slave trade

Modern AU ideas (non Piccrew): What my OC would drive
Background: He was born into the Lords of Fortune, and he, as well as both of his parents, are pirates on Isabella’s crew. He grew up sailing the high seas and plundering ships and abandoned ruins. Because of his smaller frame and speed, he was often used to squeeze into places his adult counterparts could not. Despite both of his parents being Lords, his mother insisted on raising him to be a gentleman. He thinks she might have been nobility before joining the Lords because of this and the fact that she taught him how to ballroom dance. However, neither his parents or other Lords will give him a firm yes or no to that question. Both of his parents are still alive and well and happily married. As he grew up, he maintained the same nimble and fast nature. He is able to slip past nearly any trap and plunder nearly any ruin. He is also one of the best lockpicks in the Lords as well.
How he joined the Veilguard: With the Antaam presence growing in Rivain, Isabella and Julius agreed it would be a good idea to send someone to join the Veilguard and try to make allies there. The more allies they had when facing the Antaam, the better. Their dreadnoughts were wreaking havoc on the pirates and their way of life.
Personality: Cocky and brash, self-described ladies man. He’s his own hype man, but it’s largely just an act he developed being around the other Lords. He’s actually goofy and dorky, but he just hides it behind his tough, shiny exterior. He loves to read and especially loves romance novels and serials.
Romance: He’s had his fair share of one-night stands and trysts, but he’s never really had a serious relationship. Due to their migratory nature, most pirates weren’t exactly what one would call monogamous. Even more rarely did they engage in relationships that were long-term. All he really wants is a woman to love him like he loves her, someone to come home at the end of a long journey, or someone to journey with him. He’s a romantic at heart and wants a great love story of his own.
Likes: Drinking, hanging out with friends, treasure hunts, fighting in the Halls of Valor, trying new food, going to new places, going with the flow, giving gifts, dancing, swimming, spending time at the beach (his favorite place to be), favorite food is seafood, favorite drink is ale/mead, frozen and fruity drinks, a cold drink in his hand and toes in the sand, his beauty regiment (especially for his hair)
Dislikes: people who take themselves too seriously, rigidity, slavery, blood magic, pretentious assholes
Additional lore:
Growing up on his parents’ ship, he would sneak food from the kitchen to feed to the mice and rats onboard. He considered them his pets until one of them bit him on the face. The rats and mice became such a big problem on the ship that his parents had to get a cat to help control the population. Once they got the cat, Julius then turned his attention to trying to befriend the cat by sneaking it food from the kitchen. Eventually, it does work, and the cat starts sleeping and cuddling with Julius. Then one night, when Julius is a teenager, the cat brings a live rat into the bed, making Julius scream bloody murder, waking everyone up on the ship.
He is an only child, but Malais (from @mining-for-days) is an honorary younger sibling to him, and they behave accordingly.

With Friends: Very warm and platonically affectionate. Arms around them, hugs, etc. Sometimes, even hand-holding if he feels like they need extra reassurance or security
Flirting: He’s big into leaning against walls, gentle touches, and playing with their hair. Will pick them up without hesitation as long as they’re okay with that
With an Established Romantic Partner: Will randomly pick them up or carry them just because he likes to do so. Hugs, hand-holding, his arm around them. He likes to be physically touching them if he can be. Very protective, very loyal. He doesn't really get jealous (I can actually see him being kind of into watching someone flirt with his partner and then he swoops in and steals his partner away)
In Combat: Very quick on his feet, but he prefers to fight from a distance since his primary weapon is his bow. He is well versed in using his daggers, but he’s deadliest with his bow (head shots for days)
Dialogue/Speaking
Voice: In my head, he sounds like Adam Rodriguez (aka Luke Alvez from Criminal Minds).
General: He’s always teasing and joking. He doesn’t take much seriously. He is very slow to anger
With Friends: Lighthearted, funny, joking. Has a very sunshiney demeanor most of the time, especially when someone he cares about is having a tough time. His mom made sure he was in touch with his emotions so he’s able to help others process theirs too
Superiors/Leaders: Generally very respectful of his superiors/seniors unless he thinks they’re incompetent, in which case he will outwardly sass them and mock them.
Romance: The cockiness and arrogance are normally just an act he learned to adopt among the Lords (if you can’t beat em, join em, right?). However, once he gets to know someone a little more, the attitude fades away, and he becomes his genuine self. Goofy, sweet, but still charming. Will knowingly flirt with someone’s partner if he hates them just to piss them off. (am I building this into his character so I can spark more fights between him and others in the Lighthouse? Absolutely, I am). He will tease his partner at every given opportunity, but he does so lovingly. He’ll never pick on them about something they’re sensitive about (not on purpose, at least). He loves using nicknames and pet names, especially while flirting.
Humor: He loves teasing and making jokes. If he thinks something will make someone blush, he will absolutely bring it up/make a joke about it just to fluster them.
Anger: He doesn’t really get angry easily. He’s more of a laugh-it-off kind of guy. If something really pisses him off, he goes silent and broody.
Cursing: He mostly uses colorful phrases from various different languages, but the main ones are from Trade/Common because that’s his first language. He’s picked up a few phrases in Qunlat as well as Tevene.
Combat: Cocky bastard when he wants to be, but he doesn’t tend to be one unless he’s aiming to piss somebody off. He knows just what buttons to push to send someone over the edge. He really likes to poke the bear when he’s fighting, even when he’s fighting someone he knows (e.g. Grey in the Lords common room)

Queen Elissa Cousland and King Alistair Theirin's eldest child and only daughter (1 younger brother). She could either be married off to some boring noble in a political marriage or run off to join the wardens and continue her parents’ legacies. She chose the Wardens. Smart, quick-witted, sassy, and sarcastic. Loves animals, especially cats. Her love language is mocking and teasing her friends. "One of the guys," she enjoys challenging and beating men (especially her fellow Wardens) in tests/battles of strength and toughness. Highly competitive. If you tell her she can't do something, she'll do it out of spite, even if it means injuring herself in the process. Athletic. Slow to anger but once she's pissed off, run. Reveres templars highly (because Duh). Culture shock in Tevinter to see how different the templars are there vs Fereldan.

16-year-old Jin starts watching the King’s Guard training every day and teaching herself their exercises, practicing them over and over until she can execute them flawlessly. She does, unbeknownst to her father, but Elissa figures it out pretty quickly. After all, she did the same as a girl. She would catch Jin training in secret and chuckle to herself, “You are your mother’s daughter.” 17-year-old Jin is caught mirroring the guard by its captain, Sir Tormund. “Please don’t tell my parents,” she begged sheepishly. “Not to worry, ma’am. Your secret is safe with me.” 18-year-old Jin openly joins the King’s Guard in their daily training, quickly improving. If she had actually joined, she would have risen through the ranks with blinding speed. It was here she met Sir Ian. He was a knight, a few years her senior, but very handsome and charming. They met on the training field and quickly fell in love. 20-year-old Jin. After 2 years, the courtship was blossoming beautifully. Unfortunately, her parents had already promised Jin’s hand to a noble from Orlais to rebuild the relationship between the two nations. When she refused, she and her father had a screaming match that could have been heard in the Southern Wilds. “You either marry him, or you join the Wardens!” “I just might do that!” she yelled as she stormed off. However, the longer the thought resonated in her mind, the more it seemed like the perfect solution. She would get to marry her love and do so without endangering the peace between Fereldan and Orlais. She and Ian would join the Wardens together. When she approached him with this idea, he was firmly against it, but she was able to convince him. In the dead of night, they prepared to steal away to Weisshaupt, but as they were leaving the castle, Elissa caught them. “You didn’t think you could run away without telling your mother goodbye, did you?” she called from the shadows, causing the couple to jump at the sudden noise. “Mom? How did you -” “You aren’t the first in our family to take this route,” she gently reminded Jin. She wrapped Jin in a tight hug. “Make us proud, sweetheart,” she whispered against her hair. Elissa gave her one last kiss on the forehead and sent them on their way. They spent the entire journey to Weisshaupt imagining the after. After they became wardens, after they were both freed from their familial expectations. Neither could have imagined that Ian wouldn’t survive the joining. His pale face and bloodshot eyes still haunted Jin’s nightmares all those years later. She did her job well and dutifully for 9 years. She rose through the ranks with the help of her mentor, Thom Rainier. He was nearing the end of his career and wanted to leave behind a recruit whose legacy would outlive them both. He saw something special in Jin even though he had no clue about her family history. 29-year-old Jin blows up those darkspawn, leading her to be recruited by Varric.

Background: Eldest daughter of (insert nameless noble house here). She lost her mother at 14 to an illness and her father remarried when she was 16. She hated her stepmother, and, on top of that, she made Jin get rid of her mabari (the only real friend she had). She runs off to join the Wardens because it was either that or marry some rich loser and waste her days away in sewing circles, hating her life. She was never one to be tied down, especially when she didn't want the relationship in the first place. She had a wild heart and always knew she was more fit for a nomadic lifestyle. Following the currents or drifting on the breeze was her dream. The Warden's life fulfilled that sense of adventure for her. She joined when she was 20. She ran away with her lover, Ser Ian, to join the order, but he died during the joining. Afterwards, she was dedicated to her job and did it well, rising through the ranks (much to the First Warden's chagrin). She was mentored by Adahla Mahariel (@bubblecat-co), who became like her adopted mom within the Wardens. She still calls her Ma or “the ole battleaxe.” [assuming general similarity between military ranks and Grey Warden ranks] She made it to Sergeant at 26, a feat rarely accomplished. It wasn’t long after her promotion that she had a run-in with a darkspawn that resulted in her taking a talon to the face. The attack left the right side of her face below her eye paralyzed, making it so she could not emote with that half of her mouth.
How she joined the Veilguard: She was charged with supervising Warden Thorne and several other Wardens as they attempted to rescue a village from darkspawn. Because of the reckless and rash actions of Thorne, Jin was sent to investigate rumors of darkspawn in the Tevinter Imperium as punishment, where she met the Shadow Dragons. She allies with the underground resistance group to help stop the Blight from reaching further into the city. This is how she meets Neve, who convinces her to join the Veilguard. Who better to help stop the blight? The real push comes from finding out the First Warden is against the group and their mission. Her vow is to stop the darkspawn, not serve the First Warden. If she can piss him off in the process, even better.
Personality: Reserved, almost cold and standoffish until you get to know her and she starts to trust you. Once she starts to lower her guard, is when you can start to see her goofy, fun side. That side is reserved just for those she loves. She has lost too many to the darkspawn to love easily or let too many close to her. Those who get to know her heart are considered lucky because she truly does have a lot of love to give, just not anyone to give it to. Quick-witted, excellent strategist, especially in close-quarters combat. Smart, quick-witted, sassy, and sarcastic. Loves animals, especially cats. Her love language is mocking and teasing her friends. "One of the guys," she enjoys challenging and beating men (especially her fellow Wardens) in tests/battles of strength and toughness. Highly competitive. If you tell her she can't do something, she'll do it out of spite, even if it means injuring herself in the process. Athletic. Slow to anger, but once she's pissed off, run.
Romance: She isn't picky. Poor thing is likely touch-starved at this point. She doesn't know how to handle neutral physical intimacy (hugs are a foreign concept to her, and she doesn't entirely trust them)
Likes: Wine, animals (dogs and cats especially), fighting monsters, killing darkspawn, trying new foods, exploring new places, chocolate chip cookies, sparring, red wine, coffee
Dislikes: Nobles, darkspawn, the First Warden, liars, cheaters, and Weisshaupt. Antivan Crows until they prove themselves trustworthy, physical affection from those she is not close to

Has not spoken to her father since she left home to join the Wardens. She does not miss him at all, but she does miss her younger siblings Thomin and Catelina, who are twins.
Had a fling with Tarquin a few years prior to Veilguard. They broke up because they were both married to their jobs and that led to conflict between them.
The cloak that’s part of her winter wear is the same one she took when she left Fereldan
Her, Ivey, and Romulus were all part of the same squad not long after they had all joined the Wardens. The group collectively dyed their hair blue, and all three of them continued to do so for their own reasons. Jin’s was to show her devotion and unwavering loyalty to the Grey Wardens
She wore her mother’s wedding band on a chain around her neck until she proposed to Elysia
Best friends with Kalais Montero (from @astorytelling) and good friend with Morella Thorne (from @alystrin03). Morella was one of Jin’s contacts in the south who helped her get information regarding Amaranthine and Semar (also from @astorytelling), who she suspected was connected to the Architect somehow but had no proof. Her suspicions were confirmed during the Battle for Weisshaupt.

General Behavior: Cannot give a full smile. The scar on her cheek from a darkspawn attack sliced through the muscles and nerves, making it so she couldn’t use that side of her face. Commanding and authoritative presence. She carries herself like a senior warden. She stands tall, keeps her chin up, and maintains a poker face. Typically walks with her hands behind her back (reflex from officer training at Weisshaupt). Regularly stretches her neck and shoulders. Her signature “atta-boy” is a firm clasp on the shoulder or a pat on the back. When she’s deep in thought, she tends to bite the end of her thumb or, if seated, bounce her leg. Tends to talk with her hands when her emotions are elevated (very happy, very angry, etc.)
With Friends: Able to separate her role as an officer from that of a friend when interacting with friends who are Wardens. Known to put an arm around their neck or walk arm in arm with them. Major Big Sister vibes, especially to any friends who are younger than her. Allows hugs from a very select few friends or in very specific circumstances.
Flirting: Doesn’t really know how to flirt with anyone who has not shown explicit interest in her. When she flirts with someone who has shown interest, it’s typically a kiss on the palm, knuckles, or back of the hand. Running her hands through their hair, resting her forehead against theirs.
With an Established Romantic Partner: Loves hugging her partner. Sweet and gentle. Loves holding hands and cuddling with her partner. She loves doing acts of service for her partner as well as giving them gifts (I found this rock and it made me think of you, type of gifts). Will often have her arm around them if possible. Fiercely protective of her partners
In Combat: She enters into a frenzy of sorts in the heat of battle, cutting down any enemy before her, coming to her allies' aid as quickly as she can. Surprisingly fast, even when wearing her Warden heavy armor.
Dialogue/Speaking
Voice: Paget Brewster comes to mind immediately, but also Mariska Hargitay would fit really well, too. Intense, monotoned voice unless speaking to friends/loved ones
General: Tries to avoid flowery or overcomplicated language. Very direct and to the point, sometimes to a detriment. When she has to correct or critique one of her charges, her voice becomes gruff and harsh, a trick she picked up when she realized they listened better when her voice was more masculine
With Friends: Still direct and blunt, but gentle about it. “Do you want the honest answer or the friend answer?” Snarky and sarcastic when she wants to be. Sometimes deadpan to the point people aren’t sure if she’s joking or not (relatable)
Superiors/Leaders: Respectful and diplomatic. Until the First Warden sent her to Dock Town. Now she still respects all other senior Wardens, except him. She brings the full force of her snark and attitude against the First Warden at every opportunity now
Romance: Hums a lot when with or thinking about her partner. Her voice can be a little sing-songy when speaking to them or about them. Love changes her, bringing out her softer side.
Humor: Very dry sense of humor. Sometimes the sense of humor of a teenage boy (being with the Wardens for ten years will do that to you). Loves bad jokes and dad humor
Anger: Her tone becomes clipped and terse. Her words become harsh and pointed. Maker help whoever is on the receiving end of her scolding. She talks with a clenched jaw and through gritted teeth when she’s especially mad
Cursing: Typical Warden cursing. Some colorful phrases were picked up in other languages from other Wardens. Colorful expression like Andraste’s tits, Maker’s balls, etc.
Combat: Shouts orders and commands to her charges, directing them where to move and attack. Curses when she has a close call/near miss. Laughs darkly when killing a darkspawn or Venatori.
