i read “i’m gonna be a good daddy” i’m gonna leave
(Mark) Alice inches her way over to Mark, wrapped up tightly in a blanket. "Hello, Daddy. Today, I'm a slug." ((Why? Because.))
Mark smiled at her. "You're a very pretty slug. Why are you a slug today, sweetie?"
(Mark) "Daddy? How long have you known Papa? How did you meet?" The little girl asked.
Mark smiled and thought about it for a moment. "Your Papa and I have known each other for a very, very long time," he said. "We didn't get along at first, but we eventually clicked and became closer."
"Okay... Aunt Maureen!" Alice chirped as she ran to her for a big hug. ((Okay, so it's more babysitter Maureen feels, oh well.))
Maureen knelt down and hugged Alice tightly, grinning from ear to ear. "Howdy, little bug! You got anything in mind that you wanna do tonight?"
Mark glanced at the clock, grimacing a bit. "Oooh, I need to go." He moved over to Alice and kissed her forehead. "Be good for Aunt Maureen." He looked over at Maureen. "No chocolate, soda, or anything with sugar. Got it?"
She smiled charmingly. "Yes, Marky! Bye bye now!"
The filmmaker eyed her warily before huffing a bit and leaving.
"Can't I come with you? Who's the friend?" She asked him before Maureen knocked on the door.
"No, you can't." Mark stood up, going to let Maureen in. "It's an adult dinner. Plus, we're gonna talk about really, really boring stuff. It'll put you right to sleep before the dinner even arrives!" He smiled at her. "Her name's Nanette. I knew her in high school."
Alice hugs him tight. "Please don't go, daddy... I'll miss you too much..."
Mark returned her hug, rubbing her back gently. "I have to go," he murmured. "Everything will be okay. If I know your Aunt Maureen, she'll make sure that you won't even notice that I'm gone."
"Daddy? Why's Aunt Maureen coming over to babysit? Where are you going? Are you leaving forever and ever?" Mark's seven year old daughter Alice asked.
Mark glanced away from the mirror as he finished straightening up his tie, smiling at his daughter. "It's only going to be for a few hours," he said gently, kneeling down in front of her. "I promise, I'll be here when you wake up in the morning. I'm just meeting an old friend for dinner and a meeting."
