My dumb ass took its sweet time but I finally understood that the purpose of Dan in ofts was to show that Nick HAD options. He could have just lied to Boston about Dan being his bf and tell Boston off because clearly Dan wanted it, Dan wanted to be his bf sadly Nick didn't give him the chance. Nick didn't WANT anyone else he wanted Boston, Nick didn't go to Boston because he didn't have any other option, he went to Boston because he genuinely loves him and misses him and wants to be with him.
