Harry and River;

Boo boo buster:

River was playing on the sidewalk riding his tricycle. I was sitting on the steps, occasionally going through my phone and replying to emails. "Look at me daddy, I'm going faster than a car!" River shouted for his bike. I waved to him, making sure he doesn't wheel into the street. It wasn't until River was going really fast that I began to panic.

"River watch where you're going!" But it was too late....he had already slammed into a tree and fell off his tricycle. I immediately ran to him and helped him up. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" River's lip quivered; looking down to see his slightly bloody knee. He touched it only for a sharp burn to sound within his exposed flesh.

"Wahhh" I scooped him up in my arms and held him close to my chest. "It's okay, we'll fix you up." I said in my baby voice. I took River inside after moving his tricycle away from the tree and taking it inside. I set him down on the bathroom counter and got out the first aid kit. "Okay, Mr. River, we're gonna make that boo boo better." I tried to closely imitate a doctor. River giggled because in his words, I sounded "funny".

"Would you like me to bring in my assistant nurse rexie?" "Yeah! Rexie said he always wanted to be a doctor, we practice on each other all the time." I smiled softly and went into River's room and got rexie.

"Here you go- I mean....hello nurse rexie. Today my little patient was in a bicycle accident and he hurt himself. So we gotta fix him up. First we'll pour the alcohol on this cotton ball..."

"No daddy! It's gonna burn!" I snapped out of my doctors mode and comforted River. "It'll be okay baby. I'll tell you what, you can hold rexie's paw and listen to him tell jokes while I clean it." River wasn't convinced. "I'll be quick I promise." I said in my baby voice. I went as fast as I could but it still didn't stop River's cries.

He put his hand over his mouth but cries still escaped from his lips. "Oh my big boy..." I set the cotton ball down and wrapped River into a warm, affectionate hug and pressed soft and loud smooches on his chubby wet cheeks. "I'll make it better." I said in my baby voice. I finished up cleaning River's knee, and then I added some antibiotic ointment on it. "Now you're favorite part my little special patient, Bandage."

I applied a dinosaur bandage to River's knee. "Cool! Pterodactyls are on it."

"And now for my special treatment of boo boos..." I said in my doctor's voice. "....a kiss and a cuddle." I kissed River's cheek loudly and gave him another warm and tight hug. "Oh I can't forget about the knee." I bent down and kissed River's knee and made rexie kiss his knee too. "Mwah! There River now you feel better." I pretended rexie was speaking which made River laugh.

"Now how about we try again on that trike?" My little boy looked to the side before smiling and nodding. I had won him over. I took him gently off the bathroom counter, cleaned up and went back outside with River's bike, prepared to try again.
