there’s no one AFAB in my family, it’s just me and my dad (my mom left when I was little). so my dad has never had to deal with “girl stuff“ before.

until yesterday when I came out to him as trans and he was just like “cool, I’ve always wanted a daughter I could brag about.” WHICH IS THE BEST THING HE COULD HAVE POSSIBLY SAID

but then, IT GOT BETTER. this morning over breakfast, my dad was like “I did some research on girl stuff, and I was wondering if you wanted to go shopping for dresses or makeup. Or just shopping.”

Saw that other anon talk about coming out to her dad and it made me wanna share another wholesome story.

I came out as a trans man to my whole immediate family a couple months ago but put off most of the extended family. Finally I got the courage and sent my grandfather a long text. He didn’t read it because he was driving and called me because he got the gist that it was serious. Because he got that gist he started the call out by saying, “I just wanna start by saying I love you and always will” which could go either way really. But throughout that call he

A) called me his grandson

B) said my (recently passed) grandmother (whom I was very very close with) would feel the exact same

The very next day my mother told me at his doctors appointment that day he’d told his doctor, “yesterday I woke up with seven grandsons and eight granddaughters, and went to sleep with eight grandsons and seven granddaughters”

When I saw him in Florida a couple weeks later for said grandmothers funeral (she passed in august but COVID prevented a get together) him (and everyone else) was very good about using my name and pronouns.

He even asked after i came out if he could tell others, which is something a lot of older folk don’t think is necessary

Hey Dad, I'm having a bit of a question and was hoping you could answer? So, I think I'm a girl, but I'm not really sure? Like, I really dont care what people call me, and I am not sure if I fit into the box of "girl". It's more of a "I just don't care anymore, life is short, call me whatever you want?". I think I am Cassgender, but was hoping you knew a better term for what I am feeling. Am I trans if I don't care what anyone calls me anymore and what I feel changes? TYSM in advance!!!!! (Sorry to ask this, You have been really helpful in the past to other people with similar problems)

some labels that might fit you:

Pangender

pangender is someone who considers themself a member of all genders. Pangender individuals may choose to use gender-specific pronouns (such as she/her or he/him) or they may prefer to use more gender-neutral pronouns. (They/them or zie/zem.) Agender

Agender is complete genderlessness, or the lack of gender. It is a non-binary identity in which one is not male, female, or any other gender. They may identify as most strongly as just a person, rather then as any given gender. -lgbtq+ wiki

you may also just be questioning, and thats okay! I felt a very similar way to you when I was first questioning my gender. If you’re not sure yet, just know you don’t need a label! It’s alright to not be completely sure of your identity. If you’re not questioning, and are just struggling to find a label, that’s alright too!

Nanogender

nanogender is a group of gender identities that are a little of one gender and mostly another or others. These can be any genders. The “other” portion does not have to be only one gender. Under this definition, people who are nanogender have a nonbinary gender and are transgender. Also unlike demigenders, the ”other” can be any gender or a mix of some. -lgbtq+ wiki
