For a prompt maybe what if the Fentons’ were related to the Kents’ so Danny ends up meeting Clark early on or something. And this maybe affects whether or not Clark becomes part of his support system.
Ok so the Fentons have mentioned before that they both grew up in the country somewhere rural. Lets say that Maddie is one of Ma Kent’s nieces. Distant enough in relation that they wouldn’t meet super early in life but close enough that they would meet in big family get togethers.
Clark at this time is just starting his job at the Daily Planet and the first appearance of Superman hasn’t hit the press yet. He goes to a family reunion and meets Maddie, her husband Jack, and her kids Jazz and Danny. Danny at this point is roughly 8 or so. Clark is good with kids and gets along with Danny since he’s commonly assigned kid watching duty while the rest of the adults chat and catch up.
Danny and Clark have very spotty contact back and fourth from holiday cards and a few email chains asking how to properly research information for papers (Clark is truly happy that someone had come to him for advice on his job since he doesn’t get to talk about it often.)
Danny isn’t a stupid kid. It takes him a few years but he connects that his cousin once removed (I think that’s the relation?) Has the exact same face as the Man of Steel.
He keeps it to himself but he always keeps tabs on Superman to make sure that his first cousin once removed is doing ok and isn’t in dire need of help (not that he can do much to help.)
A few years pass and Danny has the portal incident. He has issues dealing with controlling his powers and doesn’t have someone to help teach him how to be a superhero. He remembers Clark’s email from the brief times they talked and realized that he could get help
from The Superhero. He shoots Clark an email for help on how he got a hold of his powers and the rest is history.
