You spotted Wu-jin in the crowd, waving to your girlfriend's little brother as you began making your way up the stadium steps.
Hari was getting ready with the other archers, but you still made sure to send her a quick air kiss through the crowd. She rolled her eyes, but still caught the kiss, ever so subtly putting it in her pocket.
You were always someone who wore their emotions like a badge of honor, not afraid to show your love in cheesy ways. Though it wasn't Hari’s usual speed, she enjoyed it and slowly grew used to repeating. Being cheesy was easier to do when it was directed towards you.
You happily sat down next to Wu-jin.
“You excited to see your sister kill it?” He smiled, nodded, as a boy sitting next to him nodded too, yelling enthusiastically. “Hell yeah”
You raised an eyebrow at the boy, but still smiled at his enthusiasm. You hadn't expected Wu-jin to bring a friend, but you were always happy to have people come see how awesome your girlfriend was.
“Oh, hi, we haven't met before. I’m y/n.” You smiled, putting out your hand to shake. Wu-jin gave the two of you a weary look, but neither of you seemed to notice, just happy to meet each other.
“Hi! Are you a friend of Hari?” The boy asked as he began reaching out to take your hand.
“I’m actually her girlfriend.”
Before his hand could touch yours, he suddenly drew it back, his once overly friendly face covered in a scowl.
Wu-jin groaned. He knew this would happen, but he was hoping he’d get at least a small amount of peace before it all turned to shit.
You looked confused at the sudden action of the boy.
“Oh, ok,” he spoke coldly, his gaze already moving away from yours. You looked oddly between the two, awkwardly smiling. “And who are you?” You asked, trying to keep the conversation going.
“This is dae-su,” Wu-jin explained, clearly embarrassed by his friend. “He’s my-”
“I’m his brother-in-law,” You laughed a little, looking at Wu-jin, who was covering his face at Dae-su's announcement.
“I didn't know you were getting married." You teased Wu-jin before turning to Dae-su, who was still ignoring you. "Is your sister nice?"
Wu-jin cringed. “He doesn't have a sister.”
You mind slowly processed the information, as you finally pieced together what was going on. “Ohhh. So you have a bit of a crush on Hari.” You smiled a bit, finding it almost cute.
“It’s not a crush. We’re getting married,” Dae-su crossed his arms and pouted.
“You’re marrying my girlfriend?”
“Yeah, once you get out of the way,” He scoffed, and your smile faltered a bit. Still, you tried to keep your voice light and teasing. He was still a kid after all. “Well, you know, I think we’re pretty cute together, so you’ll be waiting a while.”
Dae-su looked you up and down. “Hari could do better.”
Your eyes widened as you raised an eyebrow. Oh, this kid came to fight. “And you think you’re better?”
“Guys,” Wu-jin quietly pleaded, not liking how emotional you both were getting.
“Yes I do actually.”
You scoffed. “Well, she’s dating me, so sit down, child.”
“She’ll work out pretty soon that you're a wrinkly old witch and get rid of you.” You gasped, “Listen here, you little punk-”
Before you could threaten him more, the announcer announced Hari's entrance on the stage.
Instantly, you both snapped your attention to the front, cheering for Hari. It was clear you were both training to out-cheer the other, as you kept glancing towards each other in between her shooting.
When the competition ended, you and Dae-su rushed out to get to Hari, Wu-jin embarrassingly trailing behind. You almost got there first, but Dae-su slammed his foot on your toe, and you yelped in pain.
“Hey Hari, you did amazing out there,” Dae-su spoke to her, his eyes almost twinkling as he stared at the older girl. She gave him a respectful nod back, but quickly turned her attention to you, noticing you were limping ever so slightly.
“Are you alright?” She asked softly, and you nodded. “Yeah, I’m all good. Some freak just stepped on my foot.” You glared at Dae-su as you said that.
The glare melted into a smirk as Hari wrapped an arm around, helping you stand better. You turned, giving her an exaggerated kiss on the cheek, keeping one eye open to make sure Dae-su was seeing it.
Hari was grateful for the affection, but was confused why the kiss was lasting so long. She pulled away, looking at you strangely. “Are you alright?”
You nodded. “Yeah, of course, I just wanted to show attention to MY girlfriend."
Hari and Wu-jin both let out sighs, as they both noticed the glare you and Dae-su were sending each other in that moment.
---
“You know you don't have to walk with me. I know where I'm going.” Hari spoke as she watched you standing awfully close to her, seeming almost on edge.
“Of course I do, that’s how great of a girlfriend I am.”
She raised an eyebrow, amused by your odd behaviour. You didn't usually act like this, but for some reason, as soon as she mentioned going to the journey wing to visit her brother, you were clinging close to her.
In reality, you were just trying to make sure a certain someone wasn’t making any moves. Either way, Hari didn't mind the extra attention… even if her face didn't look any different.
“Hari!” Your eyes narrowed at a certain someone, as he scrambled from his seat to get to Hari.
“What brings you here?” Dae-su asked coolly, all his focus on your girlfriend. You huffed as you watched the interaction closely. “I just wanted to give this to Wu-jin before class started,” She simply stated, holding up a lunch box.
“Let me carry it for you,” He spoke with almost stars in his eyes at the idea of helping her out.
“She’s strong enough to carry it herself,” You retorted, knowing your girlfriend didn’t like being dotted on. Finally, Dae-su turned his attention to you, but he just glared at you.
He turned back to talk to Hari, but she had already left, not caring enough about Dae-su to retort. Dae-su was about to follow her, but you pulled back the back of his collar.
“Uh-nuh, no way. You're staying over here,” You ordered, and he rolled your eyes. “Why? Have you finally realised you have to keep me away, otherwise Hari will pick me over you?”
You scoffed. “No, I just don’t want Hari’s day to be ruined by an annoying little kid.”
Usually you would not be so cruel, especially to someone who in every other context seemed to be a good kid. He just knew exactly how to get under your skin.
“Well then, you should stop hanging out with her,” He spoke smugly, and you scoffed. “Listen here, you little shit, you need to back off my girlfriend.”
“Or what, you gonna fight me? Go ahead, I'm down.”
You rolled your eyes. “Ok, I’m not going to fight you. That's ridiculous.”
Dae-su seemed ot light up, finding a weak spot. “Oh, what? You scared of getting beat?”
“No, I just am sensible enough not to fight a child.”
“I think you're just chicken,” Dae-su spoke up, gaining the attention of the students around you. “I think you know that if Hari sees you get beaten up, she’ll know you and your boring relationship is not what she needs.”
Hari glanced over, noticing your fist clench as you stared at Dae-su. “Oh no,” she sighed, knowing you were getting yourself into something stupid.
---
“What are you doing?” Hari watched as you searched through your bag.
“I’m looking for some cloth, so I can wrap it around my knuckles like in the movies,” You explained, as you dug through the mess of a bag. Dae-su and you agreed to fight each other at the end of the day, and your fiery rage had kept burning through all your classes.
“No, I mean, what are you doing agreeing to fight Dae-su?” If it wasn't for the group of teenagers waiting outside with Dae-su, she would have never believed her girlfriend was getting into a fight.
“I’m defending your honour,” You replied like it was obvious, avoiding her eyes. You knew if you looked into them, you would be forced to face reality. Hari narrowed her eyes. “My honour?”
You looked to her, nodding, hoping that she would just leave it there. Though your girlfriend gave you an unimpressed look, you started to feel that the fighting energy drain from your body.
“That’s stupid,” She pointed out, and you sighed and your shoulders slumped. “Yeah, I know.”
You looked down at the floor, kicking your feet ever so slightly. She sighed, taking your chin in her hands. “Do you really think that he can steal you away from me? Because you are sorely mistaken…and a bit dumber than I thought you were. ” She placed a kiss on your lips. “There’s my usual girlfriend,” she chuckled as she noticed your goofy face from the kiss.
“Yeah, this fight is stupid.” You shook your head and sighed.
“Yes, it is,” She agreed as you swung your bag over your shoulder.
“It’s not even that I think he would steal you from me; I know he could never do that. It’s cause… well, he said our relationship was boring. I don't kike that he insulted our dynamic.” You chuckled, shaking your head at your stupidity.
You kept walking through the hall. “If we exit through the side gate, they won't even see us. Hopefully they’ll just all go home once they realize I'm not coming.” You turned, expecting to see your girlfriend right behind you, but she was still standing at your locker.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, confused by her sudden stillness.
“He called our relationship boring?” She asked, and you slowly nodded, wanting to see where this was going.
She looked you right in the eyes.
“You are going to that fight and beating his ass.”
You instantly dropped your bag, cheering, running to your girlfriend, and kissing her. Maybe it was the irresponsible, the low road thing to do, but you were so down to defend your honour.
And even if the night ended with you swinging once at Dae-su, missing, but making him cry anyway - and you and Hari took him and Wu-jin out for ice cream, where the two of you made, so be it.
Hari was just happy to have her hyper, over-dramatic girlfriend, showing her love in ways she had never had before.
