what does daemon want? he wants to be a woman. not being a woman (from his pov) is the thing that messed up the trajectory of his life. he cant be a woman though, so he makes his problem everyones problem

What do you think Daemon actually wants (besides Viserys and the females in his family, carnally and romantically)? Is it all inextricably linked back to his family, or is there anything that exists outside it that he can find?
I get the feeling he himself doesn’t know most of the time, but is it identifiable for us, the viewers/readers?
i think daemon wants what most people want. to be accepted, loved, to have freedom. these are all things that he could (and possibly only) be able to find outside his family, but targaryen grooming is insidious. theyre raised from birth to believe their destiny is to marry a sibling and have lots of babies together. daemon wasnt born a woman, so he cant marry viserys. they dont have any sisters. daemon believes he needs to be a capital T targaryen, a Man. but his situation complicates this desire. because he cant fulfill the role as a targaryen sibling power couple i think he often overcompensates with trying to affirm his masculinity. if he cant be a wife he can damn sure be a MAN.
now, i do think its possible daemon could have found this with rhea, had he put the effort in. from the little bit we get about rhea it seems they have similar personalities. headstrong free spirits. daemon mightve grown to love the vale had he given it a chance instead of just pouting the whole time because its not what he wanted. and i also think it wouldve been good for daemon to spend some time away from his family. to explore his identity outside of the targaryen name and household. away from the constant abuse his family pushes on each other.
but i agree, i dont think this desire is really something daemon can articulate. and what you want is not always what you need and what you need is not always what you want. i think it would be good for daemon to get away from his family, i do not think daemon would agree with that
