I love the blog and the work you're doing here, but is it really correct to classify the marriage equality jokes as a meme? while they are all about the same topic (marriage equality), they do not share one basic structure. Most memes have a unifying structure with derivatives to produce different jokes, but the marriage equality posts have no structural commonalities-- some are about macklemore, some lady gaga, some derive from the "no homo" meme. What do you think?

I don’t think it’s entirely accurate to say that memes have to follow a specific structure. A unifying theme, sometimes, can be enough. For example, one of the prominent memes of last year (2014) was the skeleton war meme. There was no specific format that it followed, yet it would certainly be considered a meme.

We decided to document it as a meme despite its lack of a specific structure because the posts typically share a quality that involves ironic and comical misinformation about the SCOTUS ruling. An explanation post will be up shortly, so hopefully, that will explain this further.
