"were you sw-" **YES I WAS SWORDFIGHTING AGAIN**
⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
I'm going to be asking from a Belegarth perspective, but I'd like to get opinions from people in Dag, Amt, SCA, and other LARP/historical combat communities.
I've been in Belegarth since 2017 (took a break because pandemic/grad school from 2020-2024), and I've recently taken on more responsibilities in my realm, my unit, and my community. Most of it has been volunteering my time, resources, and skills to help at events. I am the go-to food distributor for my companions at events; I successfully completed my self-imposed quest of cooking a meal over a fire last week at Armageddon. (I made a delicious Tuscan bean soup for everyone, and my Watch General made quesadillas to go with it.)
Meanwhile, I have noticed people in my extended circle either begin or complete their path to knighthood. In the time between WPO and Armageddon, my realm has gone from one knight and two squires to two knights and four squires. Not to mention that two of my realm/unit mates are both considering squireship after this event.
As a result, I'm also thinking about pursuing squireship. I came up with a plan that I'd spend the next year--from this past Armageddon until next Armageddon--improving my crafting, my volunteering, and my fighting, and revisit the topic at that time.
So I wanted to ask those of you who have pursued similar leadership roles in your various LARPs/communities how you decided you wanted to go about it. What were the factors you took into consideration before beginning? Was knighthood conferred upon you without planning (which is pretty rare in Belegarth)? Or would you have rather had a concrete idea of what you wanted before taking it on?
Feel free to reblog/comment below, or send me an ask/IM. I know this isn't my usual reblogging behavior, but I once again did not take any pictures at Geddon so I have nothing to post lol.

The knighting of Sir Cornix the Celerity Knight (photo credit to FLNT/Sawyer Richardson; pictured is Syr Talon proceeding over the knighting as Sir Cornix kneels. Creek is presenting Cornix with a spear as his knighting weapon.)
This was the moment I officially stepped into my squireship! I had retained under Cornix during his squireship for a little over a year, and I was still really nervous to step into squiring - what if I’m not good at being a leader? What if I fail?
But the truth is that I am going to fail - maybe not entirely, but I’ll have moments where I fail at tasks. And I’m not gonna be a great leader right from the start. Being a squire is the start of my dedication to learn though - learn how to better communicate, how to listen to others, how to provide a safe space for people in the community.
So will I mess up? Absolutely. But the goal isn’t to be perfect. My goal is to grow. My goal is to stumble and pick myself back up and keep trying. My goal is to learn about my community and work towards making it even better.
I am Squire Creek of Dur Demarion and this is the start of my journey! ⚔️
I went to an event for the first time in years (not dag this time. SCA) and it was sooooo much fun I sdwgfrfhh I missed this so much. I'm slowly starting to build up another local friend group. I met a couple of girls that were coworkers and worked at a textile museum together and I met another woman that owned a winery. I bought a few things from a small family selling garb and they GAVE ME a handmade tunic I was looking at. I missed this so much. I inadvertently became the Broker for my house vis a vis some kimonos they were selling. I got a men's tunic of my own that will be v nice for the hotter months :))) and next weekend a friend and I are going to highland havoc!!!
New bottom surgery just dropped... Just got an orchiectomy from red wielded by a blademaster apprentice... Thanks Dr. Ash, BMA
no demand for dagorhir posts on tumblr kills me all the time. my hyperfix is no longer a game or tv show. i want to talk about the thrill of battle. and about my friends cool handmade legal frying pan weapon.
Hey LARPers with boobs,
Have you ever worn a tunic with a deep v without a bra? How do you go about doing that? Do you just rock the tunic and hope nothing flies out?
I'm really falling in love with pirate shirts with plunging necklines but I think a visible sports bra kind of ruins the look and definitely feminizes it more than my Nonbinary ass would like.
