I dug through my record collection recently choosing albums from each year of the 90s that were most influential for me.

1990: Loop. A Gilded Eternity. Runners up are: Bongwater, Power of Pussy; The Clean, Vehicle; Killdozer, For Ladies Only.

1991: Mercury Rev. Yerself is Steam. Runners up: Slint, Spiderland; Spacemen 3, Recurring; Ween, The Pod.

1992: Cows. Cunning Stunts. Runners up: Spiritualized, Lazer Guided Melodies; The Mummies, Never Been Caught; Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Henry's Dream.

1993: Acetone. Cindy. Runners up: Flat Duo Jets, White Trees; Smog, Julius Caesar; Stereolab, Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements.

1994: The Gories. Houserockin'. Cheating because it's a late 80s album I bought when reissued in 94. However, I took a deep dive into the garage rock revival scene in the 90s and this record is one of my faves. Runners up: Guided by Voices, Bee Thousand; Killdozer, Uncompromising War on Art Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat; Palace Brothers, S/T.

1995: Low. Long Division. Runners up: The 6ths, Wasp's Nest; Flying Saucer Attack, Further; Labradford, A Stable Reference.

1996: Belle and Sebastian. If You're Feeling Sinister. Runners up: Dirty Three, Horse Stories; The Fall, Light User Syndrome; Low, Curtain Hits the Cast.

1997: Bardo Pond. Lapsed. This album really got me, especially the first track, Tommy Gun Angel. Runners up: fuck, Pardon My French; Jessamine, Another Fictionalized History.

1998: The Detroit Cobras. Mink Rat or Rabbit. Runners up: Andre Williams, Silky; The Donna's, American Teenage Rock n Roll Machine.

1999: Mogwai. Come on Die Young. Runners up: Smog, Knock Knock; The Bristols, Introducing...; Trans Am, Futureworld.
