    “Cute little bitch, isn’t it?” he coos at the puppy, scrubbing its face with his     palms, and it pants out happily. He cranes his neck back to stare at his     hick friend who looms over him in this barren field of cattails outside of     a cool Arizona dive bar. He kisses it on the head despite how unsanitary     it may be and squeezes its jaw too tight, eliciting a whimper. He looks      less cute now. He looks vicious--all teeth and no smile.

    “Let’s put it down.”

“Aw, geez, mister! You scared the be-jeesus outta me!” She feigned a chuckle and rested a palm on her chest. It was dark and cool in Tashmore Woods. The evening made for perfect walking weather, but anxiety coursed through the girl’s veins. Redd was on the hunt for Max--he was missing again ( probably out on HIS hunt ) and the police were becoming more and more suspicious of his disappearances. “You really shouldn’t be out here. There’s a killer on the loose.”

“Do you think I should sign up for more extra - curricular activities? Other than book club and fine arts. Oh, maybe dance  ————  ballet or . . . oh maybe robotics, I love using my hands! Were you ever in any clubs?”
