Sawamura Daichi wasn’t all that keen about romantically involving himself with anybody, let alone somebody within his college volleyball team. He didn’t bother to mull over his failure of maintaining that status quo by the time he introduced himself to Yamagata Hayato. It wasn’t worth the extra huff of breath, he just accepted that their quick friendship was welcoming. Hanging out with him was relaxing and something similar to his Karasuno days the way they were both in the same wave length of looking out for their teammates and coming into terms with college and its aspects of tests, professors and overall stress that formed during exams. It was shuffle that made him wonder how he was so chillax about this speed of fondness that grew by the days. He didn’t want to sound like an idiot or rushing in too quickly; yet that was what happened when he concluded that meeting Yamagata was something ideal to watching a climax of a movie. It was a wonderful and scary feeling of being pulled into these strong emotions while at the same time trying survive college.

The volleyball court was bigger, louder and the pressure of other teammates was welcomed. Sawamura enjoyed himself the way he was able to still learn from his environment and see the passion his team held. It was exciting to team up with Yamagata and first hand watch the guy play on his side. It was breath-taking to come in contact with Yamagata when he was in the zone. It was powerful watching his eyes catch everything and grin when the games became difficult, he got too fazed and it made Sawamura impressed. During games Sawamura loved how the crowds cheered when they won, he enjoyed how he could stand close to Yamagata and witness his power on the court as they played together synced. In the background with homework and breaks Sawamura couldn’t get enough of Yamagata and his sense of humor and the way Yamagata was strangely too good at misplacing his phone. It was strange sort of falling in love so easily that it got him thinking about all life choices and how February stormed too fast. Time itself moved in a fast tempo and the months themselves were their own adventures that made him smile.

It was funny how college life eventually became an easy part of his life, to have volleyball still so close to him after so many years of training and overcoming trails. And then, he was presented to Yamagata again after beating them back in Karasuno. It was quite a story that never failed to make Sugawara laugh at his face. Though it only got him thinking more about his friendship with his crush, it wasn’t like he was in any rush to change their dynamic. It wasn’t a high priority to make things awkward between them, and it was again, funny how the universe itself gave him many opportunities to spend time with Yamagata. Their dorms weren’t far away, and their schedules were somewhat clear for lunch breaks together. In all, all Sawamura was thankful that going to the same college was a blessing in many ways because Sawamura couldn’t picture his life without Yamagata and his special smile that he only gave him. It was more than enough to get by with. But it didn’t hurt when Valentine’s Day came around the corner. Sawamura was aware of the birthday boy’s predicament of having to share his day with a national holiday; and he more than happy to be the perfect friend to surprise Yamagata with birthday cards, balloons and cake (courtesy of the volleyball team helping him setting it up in their club room). It was worth the happiness that radiated off Yamagata and how that one plan and incentive cultivated a spark of courage. It was a tentative bloom of blushes, stammers and clumsy gestures. But it was a start that made Sawamura’s heart melt
