“I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.” - DaiTana
It was not a clean fight. Ryuunosuke knew as soon as the first exchange of blows broke off into circling and sizing-up that there was no way he was walking away without at least a few bruises. He would be lucky if a few bruises were all he would be walking away with.
He would be lucky to walk away at all, really.
A reflection from the streetlight at the end of the alley was all that saved him from finding himself on the end of a switchblade. But it was also his salvation; disarming and turning someone’s weapon on them was something Ryuunosuke was very good at. He ended the fight and sent the thugs who’d attacked him running. He kept the switchblade.
Daichi was already home when he arrived, but Kuroo’s shoes were missing. Ryuunosuke sighed and stepped into the living room.
“I’m home,” he called. Daichi appeared from the kitchen with a smile on his face.
“Welcome ho- what the hell happened?” The smile dropped like it had never existed and Ryuunosuke chuckled without humor.
“Same as always,” he said, waving a hand. “Someone recognized my face and decided to take out their shit with my dad on me.”
“Ryuu, I-”
“It’s okay, Dai,” Ryuunosuke interrupted. “I’m just a little scuffed up.” Daichi narrowed his eyes as though he didn’t quite believe Ryuunosuke, which was probably fair. He sat on the couch, and Ryuunosuke sighed and sat across from him, dropping his feet into Daichi’s lap. “I’m fine,” he insisted.
“Maybe we should leave,” Daichi said softly.
“Whatdya mean?”
“Maybe we should move,” Daichi explained. “Go somewhere where your dad’s just a name in a news story, where people might not make the connection between you two and try to get revenge.”
Ryuunosuke watched Daichi through slitted, exhausted eyes. There was a tired slump to Daichi’s shoulders, one that Ryuunosuke knew he had put there. He bit back a sigh.
“I’ll start packing my things in the morning,” he said. “I can be out of your hair in a week.”
“Out of my- Ryuu, what are you talking about?”
“What you just said,” Ryuunosuke answered. “I’ll get out of your life so you don’t end up caught up in this.”
“That is not what I just said.” Daichi’s voice was angry. Ryuunosuke sat up and looked at him, shocked by the ferocity in his gaze. “You are not going anywhere without me.
“But I-” Ryuunosuke shook his head. “Daichi, you and I both know you’re only in danger as long as I’m around you.”
“I don’t care!” Daichi roared. “I get it! I know your dad’s dangerous and the people who hate him are more dangerous, and I don’t care! I’m not leaving you, okay?”
“Why the hell not?” Ryuunosuke yelled back.
“Because I love you!” Daichi shouted. “I think I’m in love with you, and I’m terrified, and I don’t fucking care!”
“’Bout fucking time,” Kuroo said, shutting the front door. “So where’re we moving?”
