I was in Israel for Sukkot a few weeks back visiting my brother and boy, what a scene we encountered! Machane Yehuda, the shuk, or open air marketplace in the middle of Jerusalem, was the focal point of preparations for the harvest festival of Sukkot--which happens to be my favorite holiday. My family headed over the day before the start of the holiday to stock up on the four species needed to fulfill the commandments of the holiday. The shuk was teeming with vendors each with their own speciality, while Jews of all stripes crowded around to find the absolute best quality and deal possible.
It was truly a feast for the eyes--I am including some images here of the scene.
