BARBIE // @blondmattel
dally hated parties. the pomp and circumstance made his skin crawl. no matter how good his uncle dressed him, underneath he knew that he was black and blue. his bruises were still soft, like an overripe peach, and the ton knew just where to press to make it hurt. tonight’s theme was masquerade. he was dressed in a sailors uniform, talked into it by his aunt. he was sipping on the all too weak lemonade the flurry of costumes on the dance floor was stunning to watch. mermaids with pirates, whirled around to the music.
slowly the heads seemed to turn toward the stairs. the entrance of a butterfly, golden curls framing the mask. dally’s breath caught in his throat, the stranger looked angelic. he down the rest of his lemonade, drawn towards the stairs. they were magnetic. dally didn’t recognize her, which meant she didn’t know the baggage he came with quite yet. hand is offered at the end of the stairs, white and gloved, “could i have the first dance?”
