perhaps she shouldn’t have let a stranger in. edith had always been a haunted thing. her fears and frights lived in the walls, whispered to her late at night. lately, jack, had been the subject of her nightmares. it was like a film left on repeat. just over and over and over again she watched. her imagination had always been vivid, but it was not typically as bloody. as she sat across the dining room table from him, her lips purse.
it would be unkind of her to hold him to the actions of his dream self, yet she could see an outline of resemblance between the two. she’s almost certain that there’s a smidge of blood on his shoulder, but when she blinks it seems to disappear. edith shuttered, reaching for her glass of water to her lips. “ so, how long are you planning to stay in town ? i admit there’s not much around here, but the people are good. so is the ground. ” edith leaned back in her chair. “ the place i used to live the ground was no good, rotten.”
she reached for a bit of toast before offering the plate his direction. “ you’re of course welcome as long as you would like, it’s no bother to me. i was just curious. ”
