PLEASE READ THIS POST. this is a submission from a former member. admin zl’s comment on this is below the submission. a bit disappointing to read this, hopefully we can fix these kind of things!
hi! former member here, a different one than your other submission, but i wanted to check in on you guys to see how things were going and see that the main has some concerns about the state of the directory. i hope maybe some of what i say can help you guys out and help foster a good musing environment for everyone, as well as provide some insight into what to do to help fix these problems that are arising. of course, my experience isn’t everyone’s and i don’t want to speak for all except myself and my time at dallyeog! this is long, but don’t worry admins, i don’t send something lengthy to talk bad – you guys are trying your best and i can see that!
uncapping months, while it can help with musing and activity, isn’t the sole reason the directory is losing itself, if i am honest, and probably won’t change too much. i say this as i left because the members of the directory were, quite frankly, being biased and exclusive, especially towards those who did not adhere to their popular fc or ship agenda. i know it can sound shocking, but i say this as i played a less than popular fc and could not, for my life, receive any lasting plots or starters or anything despite reaching out first 99% of the time ( even people wouldn’t reply to me welcoming them but would post starters for others with a more popular fc, for the record ), and had countless people stop replying to me with enthusiasm when i would steer a conversation away from turning a plot into a potential ship thing. none of my plots were written for ships and i never had romantic plots listed ( even exes ) to try and curb the general rpc’s desire to only write ships. don’t get me wrong, shipping is fun and i adore writing them, but i’d rather let that happen naturally, which people didn’t seem to respect and would ghost when i wouldn’t give it to them. :( both the less popular fc and shipping debacle tied together created an uncomfortable environment for me that ultimately pushed me to leave.
i don’t mean to sound mean! i understand sometimes things are double sided and perhaps my muse was just not interesting ( since, hey, i’m all for admitting my muse isn’t interesting to write against and will gladly revamp them to give them more spice! ), however, i’ve come to that conclusion after i noticed this bias arising on the main also, something that i think the other anon mentioned it briefly? which makes me think this is the huge reason dallyeog is failing. less popular fcs would only receive notes and likes from admins basically ( same with their open starters / intros ), whereas popular fcs would receive at least 5+ notes almost immediately upon their app and/or reserve ( and open starters / intros ). if a popular fc left the directory, they were usually applied for right after, which is understandable because of popularity, however the cycle would continue as additionally on these popular fcs pages would they already be getting tons of likes on their intro or already @ed in a lot of threads / starters. that’s really disheartening to see.
i don’t mean to chastise or hate on any of the members as i don’t have any ill feelings towards anyone, more just a sad feeling that this is what drove me to leave despite having so much muse for the directory and seeing tons of cool muses living here. i’m not entirely sure what could happen to help curb this, but it might be good if people take a step back and reflect on themselves and their actions, as sometimes this could also be going on without them noticing.
also, as a last note, while 5 days activity is generous, it’s also fairly quick considering after day 4 you’re on the activity check and it leaves no room for you to have a life outside of tumblr rp – i say this as i’ve been in the rpc for about ~8-ish years in and out of directories, and take it as you will, but directories with such a small activity time tend to run into a huge turnaround muse rate and die off quickly since people can’t get attached to their muse because they’re kicked before they can even log on. the average activity i’ve seen is between 7-10 days in most other rps, which does ease people into thinking they don't need to be active everyday and activity remains steady.
alright, i’m done, i’m sorry for the length of this! again, i reiterate that you admins have done nothing wrong and are truly trying your best ( if anything, i felt so overly welcomed by you guys it made me excited to thread! ), but are stuck in an uncomfortable position that’s semi-out of your hands. i do wish you guys luck and am sure you can fix this problem and get dallyeog back on their feet – it’s no reason to close over, but maybe a light revamp could help! best of luck, like i said! maybe i’ll come back one day, if i’m welcomed, haha.
i have removed my comment because i was quite emotional but we will take all of your points into consideration, thank you. in summary, i was basically saying i don’t really know how to fix this and since it is very concerning to hear i was also like maybe the rp has run its course, but we will try hard to fix stuff.
