hands snake upwards; rising to meet the paths eyes were to be taken by: instead they conceal. ceasing light from existing in dark brown pools to hide them from the world. her own curiosities burn at the tongue as to why she must but like always, ruihan does as she’s told. startlingly obediently as she puts her utmost trust in the male beside her. despite the lack of familiarities phased between them, the younger doesn’t have a reason to think otherwise if he were to fool her. 

“is something the matter, my lord?” her voice peaks between parted lips, slightly frightened, but all the more curious as fingers are stilled along her eyes, frozen at their solemn gates.

he hics, and he’s in pain. perhaps, not exactly pain as much as it was truly discomfort, as with the burning sensation in his tummy and how he could not forget the same sensations down his throat. but hui was never good at alcohol. bitter liquid that taste like fire was something he could never understand, especially when men pour bowls and bowls of the water like they wished to drown within it. 

hui blinked slowly, eyes squinting so much that he looked like a cat, or a fox. hui had only briefly ever saw the latter, but he supposed, considering all sorts of similarities in their features neither was horribly off the mark. the male sauntered slowly; while he wasn’t all that drunk, he was definitely feeling the aftermath of hard liquor hitting him, enough to have him pause to lean against one of the sturdy pillars.

somewhere along the corridor, there was a familiar figure. hui squinted, harder, focusing so that he would not be seeing several of the same man in the distance. and he recognized him. how could he not, when the younger male already have few acquaintances and even fewer to call friends? 

❝ hyungnim...! ❞ his voice slurred, mashing both words together as he gave a full 90-degree bow. hui lingered for a moment, eyes shut, before he whipped himself up straight. ❝ ah! ahhhh.... ❞ he groaned softly, whimpering after the back of his head came into full contact with the pillar. tears stung his eyes, leaving the young male to lower himself till he could find the railing to rest upon, all the while clutching to the back of his head. at least, part of him was sobering up, finally.

over the years, inha has perfected the art of turning his devious, up-to-no-good smile into a slightly more societally presentable (and coy) smirk. he smiles like he knows something that others don’t-- and if it rubs some people the wrong way? truthfully-- that’s all the better. inha loves to make people irate-- and he is good at it.

but then there are situations like this, when even inha himself is taken off guard. but that smile is almost a reflex by now, and it stretches across his face even as surprise flickers across his features. he turns to face the nobleman fully, cat like eyes narrowed ever so slightly-- corners of his lips upturned into a deceivingly gentle smile.

and he, too, of course notices how close they are standing, slightly away from the rest of the festivities ( not enough to cause any notice, of course. inha is not that daft-- sometimes. ) and inha lets his hand just gently brush against the sleeve of the other man’s robes, voice casual as his eyes glance around the room-- not looking at his companion.

“on the contrary, i don’t really see that at all. is it something that worries you?”

wooseong’s eyes flick to the older man. they haven’t interacted much, but he’s heard the stories - if anyone’s heard the stories about yonghan, he has. in complete honesty with himself, wooseong almost feels like a child around yonghan. he’s face to face with someone who may or may not be a lot like him - only older, wiser, and maybe even more charming.

“i could say the same to you,” he says, finally, voice giving away none of his nervousness. if anything, wooseong sounds almost cocky. that won’t do either. “but then, it takes a specific type of person to enjoy these kinds of events, from my experience. for most people… they’re always a bit of a drag.”

“not to speak badly of her majesty, of course,” he finishes with a thoughtful tilt of his head, eyes flickering around to see if anyone else has just heard what he’s said. the last thing wooseong wants is for someone to think he dislikes the very woman they’re all gathered to celebrate - he’s just trying to make conversation with the one thing every person loves to do: complain. “no, if anything, this is one of the better, er, celebrations i’ve been to - i haven’t been to as many as yourself, though.”

he looks at yonghan again. there’s something a little dangerous in his eyes, his smile shines in the evening light. “care to tell me about any in particular that stick out in your memory? i’m afraid i’ve heard your recall is… impressive, and i can’t say the same for myself in the slightest.”

it was after his talk with the crown prince that yul found himself staring on a familiar face, that person was also busy chattering with people-- yul couldnt help but be a little envious of his cousin from across the crowd. quickly he glances at his father, who was again busy with the elderly crowd and he didn’t pay yul any attention, like norml-- so slowly he made his way over to where yonghan was standing and with careful steps, yul stood beside him without saying anything for a short moment and waited for yonghan to notice his precence. 

“cousin,” yul uttered with a playful smile on his face, the lady that yonghan was speaking to blushed as she noticed him standing there beside him. 

                                                        “were you following me cousin?”

yul couldnt help but chuckle, lifting his brows up as he smiled at him, “maybe i was, what are you gonna do about it?”
