How Insects and Pests Get Behind Damaged Siding
Damaged siding can create more than an appearance problem. Cracks, loose panels, missing sections, and open seams can give insects and other pests an easy way to enter the protected spaces behind a home’s exterior.
Once pests get behind the siding, they may build nests, damage insulation, trap moisture, and move through wall cavities. In some cases, they can eventually enter interior rooms through gaps around windows, outlets, pipes, vents, and baseboards.

The best way to prevent insects entering siding is to repair exterior damage quickly. Cracks should be sealed, loose panels should be secured, and damaged materials should be replaced when necessary. Gutters and downspouts should also be kept clear because excessive moisture can weaken exterior materials and attract insects.
It is also important to avoid sealing an active nest inside a wall. Pest treatment and siding repair should be coordinated so the infestation is removed before the entry point is permanently closed.
