Oh yeah so I was talking to my friend from Rancho Cucamonga (still California, different district though) about books we had to read in school and it turns out she has had to read practically nothing we did at my high school/ middle school. Remember all those depressing books and short stories teachers made us read? She hasn't had to read any of these: Of Mice and Men, Anne Frank, Gift of the Magi, Skeleton Key, Scarlet Ibis, The Landlady, The Outsiders, The White Dragon, and possibly more (I haven't asked her about Flowers for Algernon or A Cask of Amontillado yet). The only school books we have in common so far are Grapes of Wrath, 1984, Lord of the Flies. Most of Shakespeare's plays we read in common too. But yeah that's it, it's like she never had to read anything in middle school o.O I thought California standardized its education material, but apparently not to the degree I thought. But she loves 1984 and hasn't seen V for Vendetta so I'm to show it to her and she is going to love it :)
