Baby Boomers.

Like seriously, what’s the deal? Somehow the “Me Generation” went from building bridges and inclusivity to insanity. How can you look at every generation before you -- their hard work and tenacity to make the world better for their children -- and think, well, damn, I need to stop that? Why are the Boomers the generation that thinks that burning those bridges and then taunting THEIR OWN CHILDREN for not being able to cross the turbulent waters of life is the way to go? Why are they the one generation that seems to be actively trying to leave a worse world behind them?

I have a couple of guesses. Things went so well for them, they forgot that they had help getting where they were. They forgot that they needed their children to succeed, to revel in their accomplishments, so they gave them participation trophies. They forgot how bad it used to be, so it can’t ever be bad again.

They have dementia, the whole freaking generation. And a ton of greed. Tom Wolfe lamented the narcissism of the generation, connecting it to their personal fulfillment, the “Me” of the generation. They instilled that value in the generations that came before. But, then they took away the bridge to make those personal dreams happen. Particularly, they led the gutting of our national public education, which means that not only are Boomers voting for the backward movement brought in by the GOP and the billionaires who freely admit to breaking laws both of the land and of public decency, but the uneducated, the poor, and often, the rural voters who don’t have the time or energy to sort through the bullshit. On many levels, we can’t blame those who are effected by the actions of the Boomers, but many others, we can. We have the internet, and you can teach yourself with relatively few resources to better understand the world around you.

So again, I beg you, go out and vote. Vote for the person who you feel most closely addresses your concerns. Because if you don’t, someone else is going to go out and vote against the things you stand for. The things that our generations (Xers, Millennials, Zers, and beyond) value and appreciate.

Please, please, please go vote. No matter what anyone says, YOUR VOTE DOES MATTER.
