Detroit: Protest against the police murder of 15-year-old Damon Grimes, September 2, 2017.
These photographs were taken at a demonstration called by the Moratorium NOW! Coalition to protest the killing of Damon Grimes, 15, by the Michigan State police on Gratiot and Rossini located on the east side of Detroit the afternoon of Sat. Aug. 26, 2017. The protest action took place in downtown Detroit on Sat. Sept. 2, 2017 at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Congress.
Grimes was driving his ATV when he was tased by office Mark Bessner, who has not been charged in the crime. Grimes after being tased lost control of the ATV and crashed into the back of a pick-up trunk, later dying. Bessner was placed on paid leave penning the outcome of an internal investigation. The downtown demonstration featured several speakers including representatives of the community.
